The lap-band process has been extremely fast for me. I considered getting one and two days later I had a consultation.

I smoked for maybe 4 months for whatever stupid reason, and as soon as I found out about meeting the doctor I quit immediately. But now my surgery is scheduled for August 28th, and I'm getting blood work done on the 11th...I was unaware that they would be doing a nicotine test. Its only been a few days that I've not been smoking and now I'm starting to panic.

I have no intention of smoking ever again, I was never addicted and it was no problem for me to stop. But I'm extremely anxious that this could interfere with a timely surgery. Any experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

My provider does a urine test for nicotine, and says that it lasts 3 days in the urine. I had no idea that there even was a blood test! It is not likely that it lasts much longer than 3 days, tho. So if it comes back positive, simply ask for them to test it again! By then you should be clear!

I hope you really have quit and don'thave any problems with it - you are on the way to a whole new healthy you! (I quit 4 years ago after 10 years of a pack+ a day) I would be more worried about having all of that garbage out of your system before surgery, as it SO interfers with healing - and you don't need that!

Good luck! It'll all come out fine . . . . but fast!

Tell your doctor exactly what you told us; let him make the call. At the worst he'll delay surgery a little, and that will be for your health.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
