It's temporary...........

Recommended Posts

Good morning........ I wanted to post a little thread about the #1 concern I'm asked from friends/family that tends to be a big concern for those pre-op banding also...... the liquid pre-op and post-op phase ..........

People are most amazed to hear I've been on liquids for 5 weeks now...... 2 pre-op.... going on 3 weeks post op now...... and then the natural reaction is "how do you do that?" "don't you just crave and want to eat everything in sight?" "Aren't you hungry?"

The answer is no!! I've read a couple posts this morning from new bandsters..... it breaks my heart to hear people struggling with the process.

Unfortunate events this summer has allowed me to put this all in perspective. I had two very close people to me diagnosed with cancer and they're not expected to make it another year. To be honest I feel so foolish to whine about liquids for a small amount of time in my life. I've done, eaten, drank, and overeaten on everything I've ever wanted to in my life up to this point. I've made a decision to improve my life and I've accepted the SMALL sacrifices that have come with this to lead a healthy life. Life..... I have one when others are losing theirs.....

The pre-op and post-op regime is soooo important to prepare your body for a new way of life. To come to terms and realign your priorities. To me it's more a mental game than anything. It is so easy to self sabotage your decision but I'm glad to see more and more people coming together for support!!

It is all temporary..... the feelings, the angst, the doubts, the anxiety, the worries......... one day we will all look back at our former lives and cry..... to finally say goodbye to person so overcome by food that we couldn't enjoy our LIVES!!!

Let's stick together and support each other....the beginning phases are so tough!! It's hard to give up the comforts of our prior existence...... but it wasn't a healthy comfort...... let's let it go and find out what's behind door #1......... I hear it's a lot of fun!!

LOLOLOL I am so laughing at myself as I hop off the soap box....

"change your thoughts, change your life"......... you can do it, you will make your goal weight, you will shop in a normal clothes section, you will feel great, you will gain the strength to let go of your old self, you will conquer this journey and Celebrate......... believe it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
