6 days out and not feeling well at all

Recommended Posts

Today is day 6 for me and probably the worst I have felt since having surgery last Friday. I don't know if I am coming down with something or what. I feel absolutely exhausted. have a headache. my ears are plugged and ringing.

I did call the clinic where I had my surgery done and spoke to a nurse. She does not think it is anything to worry about, just not feeling well and since my immune system is weakened by surgery, I just need to lay low, drink fluids and Protein and this too shall pass. I have had a cup of Soup (in the middle of the night) and a cup of Protein Drink in the past hour. I feel full but hungry?? does that even make sense?

But mostly I feel very very tired. Is this normal? What would you do? Dyanna:frown:

Dyanna -- It sounds like you are coming down with the flu. I just got over it -- and it took two weeks -- and all your symtoms sound like mine. I hope you have the luxury of hanging out at home and letting this pass.

I hate the thought that the doctor let something inside of you during surgery (other than the band), or didn't suture you correctly, but I think a thorough investigation of that possibility is in order. This would include x-rays and an indepth discussion with the doctor.

Some will ask, what could he leave inside you using laproscopic surgery? I have no idea. But that's the question and the way you are now feelings following surgery needs a complete discussion and investigation. Stuff happens. And if you don't have the fortitude to go in by yourself, have your significant other or friend go with you. And don't let the receptionist or nurse put you off for three weeks. You need to go in to-day.

Once surgery malfunctions are laid to rest, move on to the topic of having the flu or some other ailment. Go to your regular doctor and figure out what you have. Then treat it. Regretably, treating the flu may just be going home and going to bed for too long.

On the hunger issue, I don't think that goes away with the lapbad as it seems to with the sleeve (so I hear from sleevsters). Keep a record of everything you eat so you know what you're doing in that area.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
