10 lbs from goal - no restriction

Recommended Posts

I am about 10 lbs from my goal weight, I have lost close to 80 lbs now, and I feel like I have no restriction at this point. I have eaten more than usual ( of healthy foods) and I have drank shortly after eating and it feels like it did before I had the band. Has this happened to anyone else? I wonder why I don't feel any restriction? I have to go see my doctor this week, but it is a very scary feeling.

I'm 15 pounds from goal and have a similar feeling. The funny thing is, that I have heartburn, not acid reflux, but just heartburn ever since my last fill in Oct. I've had a few slight unfills since then and it didn't go away. Now I can eat bread and many things I was not able to eat before.

My appointment is this Friday, I'm hoping to get some answers then.

Do you think you may just need a fill?

Let the rest of us know if you get any answers to this. The same has happened to me, I was 7lb from goal and now have put on almost 10lbs. The first time I have ever gained since having the band.

Doc gave me .3cc and a speech about not eating more than 4oz at a time. So I'm back to following the lapband rules more strictly. I realized I had pretty much gotten away from most of them, except the no drinking while eating rule.

I feel good, more in control now and hopeful that I might just make it to finish line!

This is kind of weird, I just logged into add a message that would be the opposite of this thread.

Anyway, I think I was like you guys for most of my journey. However when I got close to my goal and since then, I've noticed the restriction a little more. In previous discussions, I have said I haven't found a food I couldn't eat.

I think part of my success has come from working hard, and allowing my self an occasional treat after milestones. The day I broke my goal was the morning of a recent 5K run. They had doughnuts available and I thought, I'm about to run 3 miles as fast as I can in 80+ heat, I deserve a glazed doughnut. Even though I ate slowly, it sat like a brick in my stomach.

In several other cases, I think right now I am feeling more restriction than anytime during my diet. Not sure why, but it should make things a little easier.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
