Question about liquid intake after a fill?

Recommended Posts

I had my first adjustment this afternoon. I now have 5cc's in my Realize Band. My doc did it under fluoro and said that my opening to my stomach is now about the size of a nickel. I'm on only liquids for 2 days, then fuller liquids, mushies, etc.

So my question is, what should I be expecting as far as liquid intake during these next few days? I had a lot of Soup broth this evening (definitely 4 cups of broth at least). I felt full afterwards but thats a lot of liquid for anyone (banded or not). And I didn't feel like I needed to take very small sips. Generally, does liquid go down fairly easily? Should I be limiting my liquid (broth, etc.) intake? Is it possible to stretch my pouch by drinking too much liquid?

Since this is my first fill, everything at this stage is very new to me. Just trying to figure out what I should expect (for the next few days and weeks). Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No need to limit your liquids other than take care not to consume too much calories or salt.

It should go down pretty good. Also sometimes the band doesn't feel tighter until a couple of days (some say a couple of weeks) later.

Good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
