Water, Water everywhere but not a drop.....

Recommended Posts

I am having trouble getting my Water in each day. I actually really like to drink Water and drank more before the band. Of course one reason was that i was drinking a bottle with each meal. But now I am just nervous about drinking too fast. I am one month post op and going for my first fill tomorrow. While I will ask my Dr. I wanted to get people opinion on how quickly you can drink water. I keep filling my bottle and drinking it slowly like I did during the early post op period. But what i really want to do is just drink a full glass of water and then later have another.

Do you continue to sip or drink slowly?

I don't sip I drink the same as preband. I have noticed a difference though as sometimes I only drink half my mug of tea which for a teaholic is a huge change!

Great question. I am so surprised that I cannot drink my Water. I used to drink water easily and lots, but now, I just take a sip and stop. Water feels 'heavy' to me, if that makes any sense

I am anxious to hear others' answers.

I guzzle it. I don't have a lot of restriction yet, so I might have to change that, in which case I'll be in trouble. I can't remember to take a sip every few minutes!

I keep a bottle with me all day and just sip it. If I gulp a lot, I will keep some of it in my mouth and make it into two swallows. The first few days, I used a teaspoon to sip everything and thats really what has helped with getting things into perspective of how much i should drink.

I keep a glass of ice Water on my desk or near at hand when I'm not at work at all times. I've never "chugged" a glass of water in my life, but I would say that once past the immediate post-op period, I drink water the same way I always have.

i thought it was just me...especially since coming off liquids. I have really struggled to get 64ozs of Water in a day where it used to be no problem. I think it is the mentally idea of not gulping. I am defintely not a sipper. I want to chug-a-lug to kinda get it over with. Water is not my favorite anyway but at the moment i maybe doing 1/2 of what i need to get daily. I am 3 weeks out and down 17 lbs since surgery. I notice this morning that the scale was trying to creep back up a couple of lbs...and I am wondering if it is my water NON comsumption. Thanks for the thread and I look for suggestions!! BTW- I go get my first fill next Tue--THANK GOD!!!

I drink my Protein Water fairly quickly since it is only 6 oz and I do that twice a day along with the choco Protein Powder in the morning with skim milk which give me 52grams of protein per day. All other times during the day you see me with a bottle of water in my hand. I was never a big water drinker and it was difficult for me at first but I am getting the hang of it now. I just keep it with me and keep drinking. Even when I am at the grocery, Walmart, running errands, etc. I just carry it with me and no one has said anything about it.

Well I saw my Dr. today and her answer to my question was somewhat helpful. She said that I can't gulp Water even if I physically can. Eventually, it will lead to pouch complications so i must go on sipping (or at least not gulping). I will try to be more aware of my drinking. What is really funny is that before the band I would not have trouble getting in my water. But of course I was drinking at least 16 oz with each meal. Now I am having to not drink while eating which is really playing havoc with my game

I think this is an Arizona thing - I can't seem to sip it either. Once I start to drink, I'm probably going to drink 12 ounces before I put it down. I think I will have problems after my next fill. That was one of my biggest concerns with the band - how to stay hydrated in the heat!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
