Has anyone had blood tests done? These would not be the preop ones... Since I dont really have a Primary care doctor, my surgeon ordered blood tests on me to check my cholesterol, liver enzymes, etc. I had them almost 3 weeks ago but no one ever called me. I have 2 more appts before the paperwork is sent into insurance. I have a sleep apnea test and the nutritionist appt next week. The surgeons office said for me not to call them they will call me to followup...

My question is this - has anyone had blood tests and did you get the results or did you get them at your next surgeon appt. I wonder how many appts you get with the surgeon after you initial one and after surgery has been approved?

Please advise! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I never got a call with my blood test results and assumed that no news was good news! If something had been wrong, they would have called. However, I'd give them a ring if you're feeling antsy about it. Don't forget that they work for you

I had a total of two appointments before I had surgery. One to make sure I qualified for it and another two days pre-op. I was a self-pay patient, however. Insurance company patients usually have to wait longer.

My doc emailed me to say that I was low in Iron and everything else was pretty normal. The next visit we went over all the results and I got a copy to give to my primary doctor.

As part of my pre-op testing, I was required to have a standard metabolic panel done ... which are the items you named ..... liver enzymes, thyroid levels, cholesterol, etc. I did not have my surgeon actually do any of the pre-op stuff because my surgery was not covered by my insurance and he was not a listed provider. I went back to my PCP and had everything either done by him or by doctors he referred me to who were covered by my insurance. But the test you had is actually VERY common. That you didn't get a call back with the results probably means that every thing was okay, but I would call and just ask for the results of the blood work.

I saw my surgeon two weeks before surgery and on the day of surgery. That's it. As long as I have no problems, his physician's assistant and another doctor on his staff have taken care of me.

If they don't call you (I'm usually called, either by the NP at my banding surgeon's office, or by the RN at my primary's office) call them and ask.

I didn't get a call but my surgeon went over all the tests when I saw him (I saw him 3 times pre-op...first, for an initial consultation and to get started with all the pre-op tests, second, to finalize details, figure out an approximate surgery date, and go over my test results at which point he put me on a Vitamin D supplement, and third, about a week before surgery for one last checkup and to go over any post-op instructions). Your surgeon will probably go over all of your test results at your next appointment. If you don't have one, then you should probably try to schedule one for after you've finished all your testing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
