Please help with advice-1st fill-Still starving!

Recommended Posts

I just had my first fill of 4cc on 7/22 and I'm hungrier now than before my fill. In fact I'm starving. I am really confused as to why this would happen. I'm trying really hard to just eat 1/2 a cup like my doctor wants me to but it's really hard to do. I can't get another fill until 8/5. I'm thinking about doing the Atkins diet until then so that my hunger will subside. What do you think about that? Is this normal?

I would hope this is semi normal. I had my first fill on 7/20 and still feel like I can eat like a normal person. Not like I could before but not like someone who has been banded. I feel full longer but when I do get hungry I want to EAT. For dinner I could fit a 5oz chicken on a bun and 2 perogies (granted I should not have ate that) but I was hungry and that is amount is what satified my appitite. My next fill is the 2nd week of Aug. I already have 5 cc. 4 in at surgery and 1 more for my first fill in 10cc band. I hear and read alot about how it takes 2-3 fills to get to that spot so I am hopeful I will get there as Im sure you will too. Drink ALOT of Water.< /p>

Thanks. It's good to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this. I've been reading a lot and I guess it is normal. My band was put in with no saline at surgery so I just have 4cc in there. Hopefully it won't be too long before I start feeling less hungry. I guess it really took that long for the swelling to come down after surgery. I'm going to make sure that I get all of my Protein and Water. Thanks.

It's VERY normal. Many surgeons are pretty conservative in their fills and it can take 3-4 (or more) before you even feel it!

If you can't stick to 1/2 cup of food (I sure couldn't) call your nutritionist and tell him/her!

Until you get the band filled, it's like a belt sitting loosely around your stomach...it's THERE but it isn't doing much of anything.

You're not the only one!! My first fill was on 7/22 as well and I feel the same: I can eat! I was losing on average 3-4 lbs a week immediately after the surgery, but after my first fill, I seem to have stopped. I've been stuck at 222 for almost two weeks and I'm really frustrated. Granted I do stay fuller longer, but as far as eating, I'm able to eat, eat, eat. I panicked and called my nurse and she said it does take your body time to adjust to the changes, but if after a few weeks, I still feel like I can eat a boatload, to come in for a mini fill. I believe I received 4cc's the first time, but am unsure as my experience getting it was quite tramatic (doc couldn't find port...lots of jabbs to the stomach...had to do xray), so I wasn't really paying attention to what the doctor was saying about how much he was giving me. I do find drinking lots of Water helps and a snack here and there, like fruit, veggies, or handful of nuts. Protein is a must! Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
