another slippage question

Recommended Posts

I have had my band since late 05 and had lost about 70 pounds overall. I finally convinced myself to go in for another fill-which was very hard to do. I had not been in for a fill since 2006 but I had lost about 50 pounds since my last fill. I have been getting reflux about 1 time every 2 weeks mainly if we ate dinner late for several nites in a row. So I finally go in for a fill and the dr tells me that it has very slightly stretched. In his words "its not too big of a deal" but he took all of my fill out and told me to come back in a couple weeks. I havent thrown up in probably a year, I would get full somewhat fast but I have a bad habbit of drinking while eating. How bad can this be if I really didnt have symptoms of slippage and is slippage the same as streching it out a little? I am set to go into the Dr next tuesday for hopefully a fill, but I am stressed and have gained about 7 pounds. Can someone pull me back in from the cliff I feel like I am on?

Lastly, I am new here and I am glad I found this place.

Your doc is the one to clarify what he meant (we can't read his mind) but if you drink and eat the odds are that what has been stretched is your pouch.

If you aren't ready to STOP drinking and eating, don't get refilled. Stretching the pouch, if caught early enough and before things are too dire, can usually be fixed by doing an unfill and letting it relax back down to it's old size (stomach material is VERY elastic) BUT if you don't quit "cheating" it will just stretch out again. If stretched out too much it can require band removal, I think.

So chill out, quit drinking and eating, don't overeat, and you'll be great!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
