Red Hat Society

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited, I've been accepted to one of the local Red Hat chapters, the Magnolia's.

A year ago, I wouldn't have considered going to a social, much less joining a group of 50+ year old ladies who like to have fun.

Even though I've only lost 49 lbs, (plus the 26 lbs of muscle I've gained), I feel so much more self confident and not ashamed to walk into a crowded room.

If I don't lose another pound, I'd still do the band all over again, in a heart beat.

Yeah, Miss "only 49 pounds lost, and only 26 pounds muscle gained!" Man, if I gained 26 pounds of muscle I would only need to lose about 25 pounds of fat...

Hi Pat! I'm a bit behind on reading the posts in the Lounge... But I wanted to let you know I think it's great you are finding fun and fellowship with other ladies! Have you been to a few luncheons by now?

When my mom joined the Red Hat Society early this year I decided to read a book that was written by the lady who founded the organization. It was a pretty enjoyable book and so neat to see that women everywhere are empowered to join together and have fun!

Hope you have lots of good times with new friends,

Karla, I haven't read the book, but it sounds pretty interesting, I've heard it's quite interesting. My first meeting/luncheon is a dinner show on the 19th, I'll be sure to take pictures and post.

I did order a purple dress and bought a couple red hats, one is like a baseball cap, only it's done in red sequins.

I'm apprehensive and excited all in one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
