Aug 10th is surgery!

Recommended Posts

Hello August Bansters. I am so excited for us. I just can't hardly wait for this. My husband is now rethinking all of this but I have not.:tongue2: I have been nervous but not rethinking it. I have run into a slight prooblem. Has anyone started or tried the Protein shakes. They are horriable. How am I gonna choke these things down three times a day. I got the GNC kind. HORRIABLE.:( Maybe mix them with something besides Water. Can we mix them with milk? I have also heard waves about the OH-YEA bars, they were ok, if I have not had a candy par in months I might eat it. I hope that I get to know each one of you and take this journey we are beginning.

Allison

I drink the Protein Powder I got from my surgeon and I just love it. It is from Syntrax which has a website (just google it) where you can purchase. Their chocolate truffle is divine. The Unjury is supposed to be really good and the Isopure from everyone says on these posts is really good also. I used Water before surgery and now I use skim milk. I chew a Vitamin and drink a Protein Shake (chocolate) every morning first thing. It has become part of my routine. I also supplement with Protein Drinks such as lemonade and lemonrazzy that have 22 grams of Protein in 6 oz. Hope you can find something you love. It stinks to hate something you have to eat or drink everyday. Good Luck on your surgery and let us know how you are doing.

Hi everyone - I am also scheduled for Aug 10, just got my approval about an hour ago! I feel like I am getting cold feet, like am I doing the right thing, did I really try hard enough on my own, etc. Anyone else have these feelings? Even though I know its the right thing and am doing it for my health. On the shake issue, I am allowed to mix mine with non-fat milk for my week long pre-op diet, didn't start yet (next Monday)...Are you allowed anything besides the shakes? I can have cream Soups, cream of wheat, sugar free jello/ice pops, etc.

ll67,

I understand, I have started my pre-op diet today. My stomach hurt all day long. I am on a low fat no carb diet. I think I am getting cold feet. I know that I will feel lots better, and this is due to my health. I will be ok, that is what I keep telling myself. When do you go in for your pre op?

Hi Allison, I go in next Thurs for what they call Boot Camp (where they tell you all you need to know about what to expect, etc) and also for my pre op bloodwork. What is your surgery date Allison? I guess the cold feet is probably normal...??? Ha ha! We will be much better off I'm sure, it just sometimes seems so drastic, but being so overweight is also drastic and dangerous, does it sound like I'm talking myself into this? LOL. From what I've heard the pre op diet gets easier after a few days, hang in there girlfriend!

Allison, I've been doing the Slim Fast Optima chocolate Royale. I mix with 1 cup skim milk and 1/2 cup ice in a blender, it's amazing! I think this will be my Breakfast or snack for life...tastes like Nesquik Chocolate milk.

Hey Allison,

I'm on day 2 of pre-op HELL but have been trying out different shakes to get a "taste" ( haha) of what's out there. I'm doing the Spirutein Choclate Soy Protein Shakes. It's actually really good !! I also mix up the routine with the Atkins Dark Choclate RTG shakes and those are quite good as well.

I second Jenny on the slim fast shakes, just hate the can so I'll try the powder this week ( DUH on me for not thinking of that!!). I also hear that Unjury is quite good and I did try the Isopure and not only is it good but it fills you up big time !! It's just sooo damn pricey !!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
