Incision red, should I call?

Recommended Posts

I was banded almost two weeks ago Tuesday. I had a lot of problems with chest pain caused by gas and diarrhea and I think I drove the Dr.'s office nuts with calls. Now those problems seem to be getting better, but I have now noticed there is an increase in redness and tenderness in my port incision. It does not hurt alot, maybe a 2 on a scale of 1-10, but it is still a bit of an increase. It is also red under the incision. The area does not look inflamed or irritated and I don't have a fever so I am wondering if I should call the office or just wait for my appointment on Tuesday. Has anyone else had an increase in redness that just went away?

Well it doesnt sound like its infected. It sounds like normal healing to me. But if it is going to alleviate some anxiety for you go ahead and call them, thats what your paying them for , right?

I too noticed that the left side of my port incision was red and mine was actually infected. First I emailed a pic to the PA (trying to save an office visit LOL) and she called me and told me to just keep an eye on it since sometimes sutures want to come out of one end of the port incision for some reason. If it got worse after a day to come in so they could take a look and prescribe anitbiotics. After a day or so the redness around the area got better and there was less drainage, but the incision itself is still red. I have a suture sticking out and can see it. If it's still there this coming Thrusday, I'll have them take care of it at my second post op appt. I ain't pullin' nothing out! LOL

I would call your surgeons office, that's what they're there for. :tongue2:

Yes, call your surgeon's office. Absolutley.

Port Infection is somtething you DON'T want to mess with. It CAN be very dangerous, and lead to other complications.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
