Banded a month ago, no fill yet. Hungry!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just looking for some reassurance...

I was banded a month ago, lost about 12kg from pre-surgery Optifast and the week after surgery. Haven't lost anything since and I am getting hungry again.

My first fill is scheduled for this coming Tuesday...so do you think that will assist with my hunger?

Mandy

It honestly depends on your surgeon, you, your band, how much fill you get etc...

I know often here in the US it takes several fills for that "sated" feeling. My doc's average is 6 months post op, before you really start losing and have satiety on a small amount of food.

Some surgeons fill more quickly and there are pros and cons to that.

Just realize being hungry now is normal. It's not a diet, it's a process and it really is a new way of "relating" to food and weight loss. So keep the faith. If it doesn't happen for you Tuesday, it WILL happen.

Hi Mandy. Are you eating solid foods or are you still on mushies? I only ask because if you are on still on mushies then the next phase (solids) may help with your hunger. I was so ready for my first fill but my surgeon decided not to give me one because I was losing great and once he let me start eating solid foods such as chicken, pork, hard boiled eggs and even pita bread I realized that I did have restriction I just didn't realize it because I was not challenging my band with the right foods. Now I am 4 months out and still no fill.

If you are on solids and still hungry then it sounds like you are ready for a fill.

Still on mushies, so I really appreciate your advice on what more solid foods may provide. My dietitian has asked me to try toast for the first time on the 30/7, so that will be a bit of a milestone.

Hey, if you don't mind me asking, what does "PB" mean in people's posts?

Mandy

It means productive burp, they say it's not like throwing up but bringing the stuck food back up in a non violent way.... Hopefully Restless will come back and expkaine it better, she has lot's of band knowledge.... In my opinion when she talks.... Listen!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
