I know this sounds really simple and probably stupid but it was the only thing that helped me. I spent the first week after surgery in my recliner, half reclined with a small pillow held to my stomach. For some reason that halfway recline was very comfortable. I guess because I wasn't stretched out like lying down and not cruched up during sitting. I also held the pillow to my belly because it made me feel secure, kind of like I wasn't falling out.

Call your doctor if the pain meds aren't working. Maybe you just need something else. I took meds for three weeks after surgery and did have to change them because my body got used to them.

I am coming up on my one year anniversary in a couple of weeks and I have to agree with the previous posters. In a few months you will be thinking 'I was worried about that? The pain was that bad?'.

I just wanted to let you know that I relate.... I started to feel back to normal, pain wise, after two weeks. I could have never gone back to work sooner than that. I'm 5 weeks post op....

I had 2.6 cc's during surgery, then .4, then 1cc. Still hungry all the time! But at least the pain is gone. But it's a big change to our bodies. Our bodies and our minds have to adjust.... I was regretting having this done and paying out of pocket for it, but it's better now.

I hope it only gets better for everyone that is feeling not so great!

It's okay, you're definetely not alone. I had my surgery on 7/10 and am just now starting to feel like myself. The bubble you're referring to is the gas from the surgery. My gas was terrible for the first 7 days. I agree with the other poster above, find the Gas X strips. The work even better if you can walk some. I walked back and forth through the house for at least 10 minutes everytime I took the gas x and it helped me. I was in the recliner for the first 10 days after my surgery. I finally made it to bed, but the recliner worked best for me at first.

I would also call my doctor. Have you taken this particular pain medicine before? If not, I'd tell the doctor that I just can't take it and get him to prescribe me something else.

You just need to give yourself time. I found myself asking why I'd had the band too at first but now I'm getting better and it's okay. You'll feel alot better in a weeks time.

It's normal to feel odd about the band I think. Hang in there and I hope you feel better soon.

This thread has been great, thanks! I was banded 7/21 and for the first 2 days thought, "Wow, this is no big deal" and then on day 3...BAM! I thought the gas pain in my shoulder was going to make me pass out. Thank God for my hubby and his ability to smush up vicodin (they didn't give me liquid).

Each day I feel a little better and today I was able to get up, shower, go to church and then out to eat afterward (a little Soup for me). It completely wore me out, but was well worth it.

It's so nice to read that others are going through the exact same thing. And oh yeah: I'm so jealous for those of you that can burp! I think I'm going to burp, but it's like it gets stuck and nothing comes out. :skep: I have, however, become the queen of farting.

I have had several tummy area surgeries and suffered gas pains each time, along with intense incision pain. This worked GREAT for me...

1. sitting in a rocking chair and rocking gently..helps move the gas along and out one way or another....

2. ice pack on incisions.. they did this to me after my hysterectomy, more relief from the ice pack than the pain meds...

I was just banded in Friday and am feeling pretty good, tommorrow is day 3, so we will see I guess...

Time for me to go ice my port incision...

Okay you guys are really scaring me. I ama total chicken. Pain makes me vomit. Did anyone ever get to that point?

Also I read somewhere (boy I wish I could find it) where some one said their doctor removed some of the gas that they use to inflate you during surgery.

Is that possible? If so I am sure going to check into it

Thanks

Lap band surgery is SURGERY. There will be some pain. HOW much and how long it lasts depends on many factors. You should discuss this with your surgeon.

I agree call your doctor . I am 4 weeks out tomorrow and it does get better. I had the shoulder pain on and off for a week. Gas pain as well for several weeks. Like everyone said the first week is the roughest but it really does get better every day. Take it easy, rest, drink your fluids and take a pain relief it helps with the pain and also helps let your body relax and heal. My chest hurt to for several weeks too. But with the healing taking place it gets better as well. Ask your doctor if you can take different pain relief and or gas relief medications. Also if you can walk alittle that will help with the healing as well as gas relief. Hope you are feelling better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
