Hi Dianeb, Oh yea, bloating is normal! it's all the gas they pump into you at surgery time. Just keep walking and it will PASS! It took me about 2 weeks before I could sleep on my stomach again! I did a lot of hugging a pillow at night.

My advice world be to Walk Walk Walk and sip sip sip!

Congratulation on your band!!

dianeb,

Congratulations! I was banded on 9/19 so am one day ahead of you. I have had the same question about sleeping, I have always been a stomach sleeper and the least comfortable position has been on my back. Since surgery it's all I can do. So now my back hurts!

I have even tried sleeping on my side but it feels good for about 1 min then uncomfortable.

Anyone have any ideas for comfortable positions and/or timelines for sleeping on side/tummy?

ALso dying to know if I can mash a bananna for a mushy? Is there a restriction on fresh fruit? I love fruit!

Thanks!

Hi all, Tomorrow I will be 2 weeks out and I am finally comfy sleeping on my side and tummy (just this weekend I was able to). It creeps up on ya real quick.

I am not on mushies yet - but I have never heard about a restriction on fresh fruit (a lot of people use banannas in their shakes). As long as it fits into you stage you should be fine.

Good luck,

Ditto to Coyotegirl....... it was about two weeks before I woke up on my stomach.

My back killed from being in one position then the headaches came cuz the back hurts.......

it's all temporary and only makes you appreciate it much more when you're able to!

The time will pass in no time.....

Congrats and welcome

I had bananas mushed up with fat-free Cool Whip...Yummy! I just started sleeping on my stomach about a week ago. So you don't have that long to wait but try using a pillow when you lay on your side. I slept with about 5 pillows and I was propped up a little by the pillows. Once the liquid Lortab kicked the pain was gone! I am to the point that I don't really feel anything except for the port and that is only when I feel for it. So you will do fine and on your belly before you know it!! And just FYI, when it came down to getting intimate again...be prepared to do all the work that way you know how much you can take as far as being comfortable and able to stop when YOU need too!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
