Need some encouragement

Hi everyone. I am a little bummed right now. I am exactly 2 weeks post-op today. My stomach is still very swollen. My port site incision has come open a little bit. It started at the beginning of the week. I called office and they asked me if it was red or puffy. I said no. They said just put some gauze on it so it didn't bleed on anything and leave it loose to let the incision 'breathe'. Well, today I shower and that little part is red, a little puffy and more open. Ugh. So I am going to have to go in to the office next week. Ugh again.

And I know I shouldn't be on the scale everyday but the last two days I have gained! I would be ok with not losing but gaining! Along with my tummy that is bigger than the day I had surgery. Very discouraging.

I am not sorry I had the surgery but I can't say I am glad yet. I really really really want to be glad.

Somebody pat me on the head and tell me everything will be ok! <grin> Made a joke... but really... <sigh>

I had the exact same situation. Exactly. I'm now 4 wks post op and it is coming back together (healing from inside out they say) and after about a 5 day stall on the scale its moving nicely again. Its scabbing and the skin isnt quite together but I can see the progress. I completely understand your frustration. Hope this gives you some comfort. Hang in there.

Hi Lisa,

Hang in there. Give yourself time to heal and let the swelling go down. They say that the weight you lose before your first fill may be gained back once you start eating food. That if you keep the weight off that you lost during the pre and post diet phase then it is a bonus. So don't beat yourself up! I know after going through the surgery you really want the weight to come off but I don't think it is unusual to gain some back. I gained back two pounds and held that weight for four days and then just lost 1 pound. So don't beat yourself up. We all lose at different rates. The most important thing right now is for you to heal and stay healthy! The weight is going to come off, trust me.

It is a challenging time- our bodies are just healing from surgery, we want to see the scale move and we want results- heck we put ourselves through all of this, would the darn scale please move!!! But the most important thing to remember- we chose a tool that is a longer term solution. We WILL lose, just not all in one day or one month. My doctor has forbidden me to weigh- because it plays with your head- if you are holding Water, or waste, it goes up or doesnt move and we think we arent losing or gasp! gaining! We have all played the scale game and we know that when we dont see a number we like, we get discouraged and upset. Remember, its all in your head- our emotions are powerful. You have chosen a tool that will work and we will work it! As we start to feel better we can exercise, and eat clean and healthy. two books for following healthy eating plans that my doctor recommends are Eating for life- following 5 smal healthy well balanced meals and my personal favorite- the eat clean diet. The Eat-Clean Diet They are both bout fueling our body so we can lose weight and i think they are a compliment to the surgery. In fact my doctor asks that ALL his patients follow Eating for life and he has some great success stories.

These words are supposed to be pats saying its all right, it just takes time, and we have the tools available to make us successful. You can do this! Look at your name- Healthy me in Arizona- yes you are and yes you will be! Hang in there:thumbup:

I wanted to let you know that I just checked with my surgeon and he said I could put steristrips back on the ones that are "open" so if it doesnt start to come back together - you may want to do the same! You can find them in some drugstores, I found them at CVS.:crying:

I also gained once I started the Mushie phase of the diet. We put our bodies into starvation mode with the super low cal sugar free liquid phase of the diet. Our bodies are hanging onto every calorie we put into it right now because of that. Give your body a few weeks to adjust and come to terms that you arnt trying to starve it and you will start losing again. Also I think its important to be kind to yourself and have realistic expectaions. I think Drs should warn people more that we will prob gain weight back when we move to mushies since we put ourselves into starvation mode. Our bodies can only do what they do naturally. Be kind to yourself and be patient. Its an important part of this journey to learn to love ourselves and stop being so hard on ourselves regarding our weight.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
