1234567890- 2 Posted July 26, 2009 first I would like to apologize if I offended anyone but thepoolgirl with my language it's unfortunate that she follows me everytime I post just to critique and give negative feed back...and that was built up anger from about 3 post from her. On the other hand...I stepped away from the chicken....I was approved and had my surgery 3 weeks after my first visit to my dr. I did no preop diet and basically just had to show up on the day of the surgery and then was given a booklet about post op....I didn't fully understand the importance of that diet be that's why I turned to you all for help. If you would like to offer your help, I will gladly listen to your advice, as for any negative comments... JENNIFER7375 3 Posted July 26, 2009 i it sucks but try to stick to the diet. about a week or so out for me my 18yr old sister was making chicken. i took a bite of it without even really thinking. it did not go well at all. i spent the next 2 hours gagging and PBing. not to mention all the anxiety i caused myself thinking i had damage my band. none of us are perfect and we all screw up. i know it sucks but try sticking to the post op diet to prevent an incident like i had. Lilpeach_059 0 Posted July 26, 2009 It's fine - that's normal. It's scar tissue forming. It'll feel like you have a ball there for several weeks. It should eventually go down and you'll only be able to feel your port. But don't try feeling it now - you'll likely only find that big scarball. Thanks.:tongue2: So it looks like I have a grapefruit, not a port under there...it hasnt gotten bigger, so I know thats a good thing. So large grapefruit sized is pretty normal? Thanks again!!
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted July 26, 2009 Thanks.:tongue2: So it looks like I have a grapefruit, not a port under there...it hasnt gotten bigger, so I know thats a good thing. So large grapefruit sized is pretty normal? Thanks again!! Have you asked your doc? I'm much larger than you were so maybe that hid it but I never had a huge lump like that. It's probably nothing just as jlray assured you but to be safe, run it by your surgeon!

I stiil feel a little uneasy ...
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted July 26, 2009 It's different and so I'm sure a little upsetting. BUT you did right to ask and it was checked so it's not an infection etc. Just keep an eye on it; don't you have a 1 or 2 week follow up? If it hasn't started to go down by the end of next week, maybe call him back. OR of course if it gets hot or red streaked and hurts! But your body is still swollen right now. It can take some of us a while for it to all settle down.

1234567890- 2 Posted July 26, 2009 I would say it was normal...my port site was huge the size of a grape fruit besides the incision sight in the middle of this grape fruit which was extremly sunken in looking....turns out the skin around it was swollen...now my tummy looks regular including the port and grape fruit My surgeon said it was ok, I still didnt feel right so my nurse at the hosptal called his office and one of the other surgeons there, said she would come by and do bloodwork and check me out.The bloodwork came back satisfactory and she said the swelling was normal. wvmoonpie 0 Posted July 26, 2009 I was banded on Monday and have been feeling tempted to try small amt of solid food, so all this advice is priceless for me. Thanks. I love this website !
cb0828 5 Posted July 26, 2009 I've said this before and here I go again: It saddens me to read posts like this. Why go to all the work to diet and fail for years, finally decide on LapBand, maybe jump thru insurance hoops or come up with the money on your own AND THEN...not follow the post-op instructions from your doctor?? If you have reached the point in life to want a LapBand, you must have been ready to change your life. This is not a diet. It is a life-changing surgery. I just can't see being willing to toss it all away for a freaking chicken strip. Respectfully, TPG Hey, I thought the purpose of this whole site was to support each other. She is down and dont need us kicking her down farther!!! Others are stronger than others. Hang in there and remain positive. I get banded 7/31, and I pray that I remain strong afterwards!! :tongue2:

I went in fully prepared and conisder myself lucky. My sister got gastric bypass with little or no wait and like you started off on the wrong foot - although she initially lost a decent amount of weight, she has since gained back 80 pounds hse lost and then 40 extra. It is a lifestyle change. My biggest test was Friday when I cooked fo rmy family for the first time - spaghetti and meatsauce and I am still on a liquid diet. It is hard - it is not so much my "hunger" but the fact that I am tired of the taste of liquid Proteins that makes it difficult, but I also know I want to live. I am 42 - My 35 year old sister passed in January from being overweight and dying in her sleep from heart failure. Just some food for thought.
