19.8 lbs in 10 days...Is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 7/14 and weighed 355. This morning my weight was 336.2. My dr filled my 4.00 cc band with 2.2 cc's during the surgery and I am very full off very little. On a good day, i consume 360 calories, but am still having difficulty getting all the Water in. Most days I am around 200 calories. I'm full for hours and even sipping Water between Protein shakes is very difficult. Most days are about 200 - 300 calories.

I'm still on liquids but I need to know if I need an 'unfill'. I'm starting to feel like I am seriously under-nurished and am concerned.

Thoughts?

I would make an appointment with my doctor to follow up with him - he's the one that will give you the proper advice. If you don't feel right about it then definitely get it checked out.

I agree that you should call your Doc. I remember not being able to eat much the first 10 days after my surgery. Not much appetite but as the days went by my appetite grew. I had a pretty big weight loss in the first month. Do call your Doc and ask though.

I was told the bigger you are you will lose weight more quickly in the begining. You should still call your doctor because I am concern about you consuming 300 calories. The losest carlies I was told to consume a day is no less than 1,200. I know some people on here that was almost 300 lbs and lost 100 lbs in 8 months. And they consume around 1,000 calories. Let me know how it goes. Leave me a vistor message. I love messages.

Call your doc. Regardless of the weight loss, if you can't stay hydrated, you're at risk, and it doesn't sound like you're getting enough fluids (dehydration can hurt us faster than lack of food) Call today.

i had lost 13 pounds within that week. after my 5th fill. because i got scared an ran to the doctor. but he said everything was ok. that was in may during that memorial day weekend. i still do not consume that many calories a day. maybe 400- 500. hope you feel better.

Thanks guys. I did speak to my surgeon and he still believes that this is completely normal. However, if after 2 more weeks I am still really restricted, then he will do an adjustment for me.

I'm so glad that I have this forum to turn to....

I just went thru the similar situation.. I was banded on June 2nd. I had so much restriction was taking me 45 minutes to eat anything. Water wasn't even going down. I went to the Dr. after 4weeks of that..he emptied the band. Now I am doing good and weight loss has slowed,(boohoo) but it is still coming off steady enough that I am happy and I can eat something...

Yeah...I'm not in a race or anything. Slow and steady works for me as long as it stays off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
