If anyone is doing the 6 month supervised diet, you may want to check with your provider. I got a call today from my provider saying that BCBS IL changed to only 4 months. They also do not need the 5 year history anymore. I was originally going to have to wait until December to have surgery, and now, I will be able to get it done in September. I am so excited.:D

I was told 3 weeks ago by a band surgeon I know that Blue Cross Blue Shield in Michigan has begun approving band surgeries WITHOUT ANY "hoop jumping."

I wish BCBS IL would do that. I have to have an EKG, a psych visit, 1 nutrition visit, and 4 months of Dr Supervised diet. Oh well, when it is done, I will be on the journey to being a healthier, happier mom to my 5 yr old Breanna.:cool2:

BCBS MA required Psych, Nutrition and Cardiologist, supervised diet wasn't required. I was approved w/n a week of submitting the paperwork.

I am going to call the office tomorrow and make sure what all is still required. They said that they would be able to submit me for approval in September, but according to what they orginally told me about the timing required by the ins, it wouldn't be until October. I am hoping that ins changed it's stance on counting the first appt.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
