No saline in band! Doc took out... anyone out there??

Recommended Posts

So now I do not have any saline in my band. what does this mean? What happens now? What can i eat? can't eat?

I was having too much pain in my chest and lots of phlegm so doc.. decided to take it all out for me to heal from surgery.. (i had a hiatal hernia as well as being banded). They did a barrium swallow (YUK) to make sure everything was ok. Everything is ok.. no leaks no nada!

So what does this mean? no liquid in my band? Do i still have a small stomach? Or stoma? I can drink Water better now that it was taken out. and i can breath better.

Been hard to drink water or anything.... my mouth after surgery has been so sour.. i have to brush my teeth 5 or more times a day.. everything tastes nasty! so i'm stuck with hardly taking in all my water intake. which concerns me..

Any advice!? thanks.. Ohhh i can't do crystal light.. the fake sugar(aspartame) makes my stomach feel nausted and gives me headaches.. (had this way before surgery).

thank

Hi Felkatz,

It will be fine. The doc had to release the saline from my band too. And had to do the berium test. Everything was fine except my stomach looked like a Macy's Day balloon. It was soooo filled with gas it was pushing on my lungs and making it hard for me to breathe.

Stay on the same weekly diet they put you on. My was released 3 weeks ago and I was still on mushy's. I just progressed with the weekly plan the doc gave me.

Just because the doc took the saline out you still only have a pouch. I jokingly asked the nurse if I could have Domino's and she ripped my head off. I got the full speach about prolapsing the band.

So you will feel much better now. Everything taste funny because you don't have the acid in the small part of the pouch only in the larger part of your stomach,

The way I got through the whole thing was with a Magic Bullet. I would take light Hawaiin punch, splash of light cranbery jiuce and some ice. Like a koolaid smoothie. I also did great with the sugar free fudsicles!!!

Good-Luck..you'll get through it!!!

many, if not most, get banded without any saline in it at all for exactly this reason...so that they can heal completely from the surgery before giving too much band restriction. when you heal completely and get back to being able to drink Water adequately, etc., you will get a saline fill. With your symptoms it sounds like it is what is best for you and why your doc elected to remove the saline for now.

usually, bad breath is an indicator that you are in ketosis (your body is burning fat instead of carbs)... though the bad breath sucks, being in ketosis is weight loss heaven.

i hope you heal quickly and your first fill goes far more smoothly :-)

I did not get any saline in my band until a month after my surgery. Even then it was only 1 cc. I still lost weight that month because of the liquid diet they had me on. Stick to the diet your doctor gave you and you should be fine.

I also did not get filled at all during surgery, my doctor likes to give the stomach a full month to heal before messing around.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
