Beer drinkers come here please!!!

For all you lime lovers out there, you might want to try Mikaritas! They are made by the same folks that make Mike's hard lemonade. They are not carbonated, come in a smaller bottle (less filling) and pack quite a punch with 8% alchohol. I love them!

If you don't see them at your grocery store, but they carry Mike's brand drinks, then ask for it! Worked for me!

Cheers!

My doc is also "Nothing is off limits" guy and carbonation was OK after week 12 (and no drinking right ontop of food, as usual). He says the belching is the only problem as some find the belching painful (I belch more than I ever have anyway) and that carbonation won't 'stretch' anything. I've had beer with no problem...I'll have to say I broke that rule and tried to have one when I was out to dinner this weekend and as I just had a fill I couldn't drink much and it started hurting ontop of the food (had no problem before I ate), but that would have happened with any liquid backing things up...my fault.

I'm not a big beer drinker, but I do love Belikin Beer (national beer of Belize) -- and when I was in Belize just 6 weeks after banding I ordered one.....took about an hour to drink half of it and decided it wasn't worth it. My preference is single barrel rum, which you drink straight like you would a good brandy so I just stick with that.

I just had a check up and asked my surgeon about carbonation and he and your surgeon apparently are of like minds....he said the big issue is pain/gas...and if it doesn't bother me to go for it. No stretching the pouch or any of that horror.

Unfortunately it still hurts me a little but not like it did so maybe I'm adapting. And I belch all the time too...but my beer belches have more KICK than I want. I think that will diminish as I continue to adapt. I hope!

Beer! oh do I love beer. None of the cheap stuff for me. I love microbrews and imports. We went to Belgium in 2005 and I came home a beer connoisseur. I gave up flavored sodas a year ago but I still love my soda Water, and gin and tonic is a fave. I've only been banded for 6 days so I have not tried anything with bubbles yet, but I know that eventually I will try it to see how I handle it. It would be better for me if I find I can't drink beer anymore, but I will miss it soooo much. I'm glad to hear that some people are able to enjoy it in moderation. - Ronni

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
