Hello! I have never written a blog before but am anxious to get started. I have made the decision to have lapband surgery...maybe in September. My insurance requires a three month supervised diet before approval. I am in my last month and have lost 32 pounds. I am struggling right now...right on target with my past history! I saw a different doctor than the one who recommended this, in the practice, and he tried to talk me out of the surgery since I was doing so well! This really messed me up. I tried to explain to him that I have lost 20-40 lbs MANY times and then gain it back, plus 20! He actually said, "IF YOU WERE MY MOTHER, I'D TELL YOU NOT TO DO AND JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING"!! I don't know why this is bothering me so much, but I totally allowed it to sabotage me last night. I've done better today but am afraid I will start slipping backwards. Any suggestions out there! Also, I am really curious about life after lapband...both the immediate and the long term.

If it were so simple then there would be no need for surgery to exist, you know that and so do most of us. Your doctor probably never had a weight problem in his life and is clueless on what it is truly like.

I heard similar comments many times before having surgery, from my mother, MIL, friend and doctor and I can tell you that every one of those people have since eaten their words and become very supportive. Keep going and don't let this bring you down.

I am the immediate voice being banded on 06-17-09. Just like jodi said, if it were that easy we would all have already done it without surgery. Like you all here have done the diet rollercoaster. And as you read through these threads you will find people who have had a less than supportive doctor and most end up finding a doctor who WILL support them. My doctor was supportive and wrote up all my necessary paperwork and my family was concerned but supportive. Please don't allow one person even if he is a so called professional to keep you from making your own decision. There are other doctors out there who will support you. I was banded on 06-17-09 and have lost 22 lbs. so far. I was a low BMI but I had no problem getting approval and surgery. I haven't regretted a minute of it. Good Luck!

Thanks for givng me some well needed support. I am glad that guy is not my regular doctor. I was somehow able to get back on track and abandon my worst habit of eating late at night...I made it through last night and tonight so all is good. I want to break into the next scale zone...the 230's so I need to start exercising. Dusted off the stationary bvike and did 15 minutes. Not the best but a start...longer tomorrow!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
