Hi everyone, i am a 50 year old grandma of 4 and one on the way and am tired of not being able to have my babies sit on my lap. I would love to see them grow. !!!! I am in the process of getting the things in place to have the surgery done. Yeah i am nervous, but i hope to have moral support from my family and friends. Its so hard, as i dont have access to excercize equipment. I have tried to lose weight by myself and havent had much success. I guess you could call me heartbroken because i went to the drs yesterday and they told me i had gained another 4 lbs, i feel like a failure. One of the nurse practioners said this was a good place to start. So here i am.:eek::laugh:

She was right. This is a good place to start. You will find great support here from people just like yourself.

I suggest you start walking since you don't have exercise equipment. Maybe even consider joining a gym. I have a membership with Curves and I really like it because it is all women, real women who need to loose weight. I have found so much support there and made so many friends. The total workout is 30 minutes but by the time you stretch out it's more like 45 minutes. Good luck with your journey and feel free to ask all the questions you want.

Hi, Rosebud!

I've been reading the posts for about a week and I've learned so much. I’ve already attended the seminar and have my first appointment with the surgeon tomorrow.

I have 5 grandchildren and struggle to have them sit comfortably on my lap. I’m excited about getting the process started.

Good Luck!

I am 50 and will be 51 in Sept. No grandchildren but I rescue greyhounds and I am active with them. I hated being tired all the time and so out of shape. I have just begun my journey and I am loving so far. Good Luck to you and kiss those grandbabies!

Hi Rosebud, Welcome. I'm also 51, no grandchildren, but 3 children - 2 teens, and one 20 something.

My surgery is next friday. I'm scared and excited off and on. Doing the Meditrim shakes right now. I must say, I like the chocolate.

Well, I hope we get to talk soon.

Have a great day and again welcome.

Sheri

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
