I had my lap band put on Friday, and as I type this I just finished eating a milkshake with a spoon, in hopes it woudn't irritate my stitches.

Any tips for dealing with emotinal eating? What do you guys do to deal with it? Cause I don't want to waste all this pain on milkshakes. Thanks to everyone who posts.

I am sure you are feeling what many others have felt before you! I think it is part of what we need to go through and conquer on our journey to our inner (and thinner) self.

I can see myself doing the same thing as you... I think I am going to start listening to some guided imagery myself to help get me through it, it can't hurt. Here is a website:

Guided Imagery & Meditation by Belleruth Naparstek - CDs, MP3s, Tapes - Health Journeys

I know that it helped me through a lot of stressful times in my life, put me in a much more relaxed state of mind. I downloaded a few of them off the above site and loaded them on my iPod. I definitely feel more relaxed afterward. There is a lot of research backing guided imagery. There are a lot more choices out there now. I might download a few more...

You'll do ok.. just don't dwell on it and move forward. What is in the past, is in the past!

Have a GREAT tomorrow!!!!

I think I would consider a milkshake as liquid, if you are making it with skim milk and no sugar added ice cream. Anyway, don't be so hard on yourself, anyone with weight issues have already beaten themselves up enough. It is all a matter of re-learning, it is good that you reconize that you are na emotional eater, I was as well and journeling has become a very effective tool, to help me work through these issues..remember if your eating..what's eating you? Through therapy , journeling and prayer, I have been able to indetify the triggers and then been able to respond in a healthy way. I know you will have victory over this as well, blessings

TY at reclaiming_ginny

I think its because I tend to reward myself with food.(Good job on that promotion, you can eat somewhere nice.) But it gets to the point where I don't even do anything. (Ehh.... You didn't do anything *bad* today, have somthing to eat.)

Its like every emotion: happy, sad, depresed, angry, I turn to food. Its frustrating. I need to find another crutch. like music.

I understand! I always keep a novel going. When I feel like emotional eating I just pick it up. Also, I get up and dance with my 2 year old son instead of eating. It is such fun and reminds me why I was banded. I want to live a long healthy life to be a good Mommy. Plus, it was hard to dance and play with him at 299 pounds. Kinda a reminder....ya know...look what I can do now!

Instead of a milkshake maybe try a smoothie? My favorite was Peanut Butter, banana and chocolate. I would blend up 1/4 cup of plain nonfat yougurt, half a banana, 1 tablespoon of sugarfree chocolate Syrup, 1 tablespoon of light peanut butter and a scoop of Protein Powder. It ends up being more than I could eat but my son would steal half of it anyways! Using a spoon helped to and lots of protein!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
