Although i've been browsing a few boards over the past few weeks, this is my first time posting. I'm a 27 year old wife and mother of 3. I first thought about wls last year, but then became pregnant with my 3rd daughter. She is now 3 months old and I have lost 42lbs so now I am now back to my my pre-pregnancy weight (actually a few pound less) so I want to begin the process of getting approved by my insurance company. I have to do a 6 month diet program and my insurance accepts weight watchers so I begin that next month. I am also scheduled for a WLS seminar at the hospital and an appointment with my PCP next month. So my plan is to do my diet and not lose too much ( it always comes back anyway), and get all of my pre-op appointments and testing out of the way during the process. I've been told that Carefirst approval is pretty quick if you meet the requirements and have all of your documentation. So i am hoping to have my info submitted at the end of January next year and have my surgery sometime in February. And by the way I am 5'5" and 245 with a BMI of 41 and no co-morbidities that I know of. Thanks for reading my post.

Welcome! I have Carefirst also. Yes they are pretty good about this whole thing.

I only had 2 minor snags that worked themselves out. They wouldnt approve my psych eval until I found a Dr that knew how to code it properly.... or something like that.

Then when it was all said and done they said they weren't paying for the operation. After I had it! I was like Ut ohhhh... But I called my Dr office & they said not to worry because it was pre-approved. So they re-submitted & all is well.

Good Morning,

I just went to the doctor once a month and they weighed me and went over different forms of weight loss and my insurance took that as the 6 month documented diet...it was cheaper than weight watchers or anything else I had looked at. :-)

Good Luck.

My band is set for August 26th...whooo hoooo

As mscafe32 stated, I have also lurked on the boards for months, but this is my first post. I started this journey on almost a fluke - I had a friend that sent one of those "16 things people don't know about you) that circulates on facebook...one of her 16 things was regarding her lapband. Prior to that I had never heard of it. As I researched and researched and researched some more, it seemed the tool for me.

Not until about 5 days ago did I start wondering otherwise...in hindsight, it was probably the surgery, missing work, etc. that had me nervous, not the procedure itself.

With that said, I had my band put in on 7/21/09 - so i am 3 days in at this point. I have found the Clear liquids to be a bit boring, but tomorrow I get to go to full liquids for another 10-14 days.

During the time I was researching, I found that most people found the "gas pains" to be the worst, I concur. It is tolerable, but occasionally flares up. I do find more relief with the gas pains by using children's Motrin than with the narcotic subscribed by the doctor.

I am still very excited for the potential of this tool. I applaud anyone who is going through this.
