Is nausea normal when you lay down?

Recommended Posts

I got banded on 7/10 and yesterday was the first time I had been able to sleep in the bed. I took a nap yesterday and then last night as well. Both times, I had to get back up because I got so sick and just knew I was going to throw up. Is this normal? How long will it last? I went to bed with my husband at 9pm and had to get back up and didn't go back to bed until midnight. I slept a little better then but still felt sick when I got up this morning. I don't know if it matters, but I had the hiatal hernia surgery also. Oh I hate being sick at my stomach!:thumbup:

Did you eat/drink shortly before? I need to allow time for my pouch to empty before going to bed.

Yeah, my guess would be that you still have swelling causing your pouch to stay full longer. I wasn't able to lie flat so soon due to pain (good for you!, it took me a month. ) Try giving your pouch a little more time to empty a little before lying down.

This is not related to being sick to my stomach - I am still in the process to be banded.

But, I was wondering where you were banded at - I also live in KY and am looking at Central Baptist in Lexington.

If you would prefer, you can send me a private email.

Talk to ya soon.

i had my surgery june 25 and i had no problems...other than having wicked gas pains in my back. as far as an upset stomach, one person asked if you ate anything a while before you laid down? i know if i take my pills before i go to bed i do get a little pain, it probably hasn't gone down yet and i didn't give it a chance and i get a little pain in there...other than that, i haven't experienced any nausea when i laid down. i'm sure things will get better for you. i feel great as far as the surgery part, haven't had a fill yet, going to doctor friday after the 2 wk puree stage, then REAL FOOD...whoooohoo. i have to say that i am a little reluctant to eat now, because i'm afraid something will go wrong...but i've been eating soft foods and they go down ok...but i don't feel as full as i did when i first started eating anything after the surgery. here's the real test when i start eating whole foods...good luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
