It is very normal. You are not in the weightloss phase yet, you are in the healing phase. People can gain 5-10 pounds during his phase which around here, is called "Bandster Hell". The real weightloss will come with a few fills.

Welcome to the club! I gained 5 pounds during "Bandster Hell," too! A lot of people gain during this time. Don't worry -- just stick to the diet as well as possible and any gain will come off once you are filled to decent restriction. Hang in there!

Check out everyone's stats -- plenty of us who gained like you are doing have lost a ton of weight since that time!

It's actually quite normal for this to happen, since you went from practically taking in nothing but liquids and very little calories, to eating things of substance. Plus, depending on the surgeon's preference, some bands aren't filled at all during surgery so once the initial stomach swelling from the trauma of surgery goes down, there really isn't restriction at all until the first fill.

I'm going for my first fill on July 28th. I didn't really gain more than a pound or two when I started on full liquids, but I DEFINITELY stayed the same for over a week. I was eating hardly anything and was so bummed because I wasn't losing the way I was right after surgery (and during pre-op). However, after about a week and a half of that, I got on the scale and had actually dropped 2.5 pounds. I was so relieved! Anyways, I have been out of town for the past 2 weeks without a scale, but I'm hoping I'll have lost more when I get back (I've been doing 30 minutes of cardio a day for the past 2.5 weeks so I'm hoping to see some change). Anyways, this hard time will pass! I am also anxious to get my first fill!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
