ok we are going on our summer family camping trip this coming weekend.. We go tent camping and only use the grill and camp fire to cook. So my question is does anyone have any food ideas for me? We will be gone for four days so I really need all the help I can get thinking of stuff to bring.

Are you bringing one of those travel cooler/freezer things? If you are you can stock it up with fish and chicken. If you are just bringing something to keep things cold (but not frozen) you could get some fish and chicken, and freeze them until theyre good and frozen, then put it in the cooler right when you are about to leave (it should stay frozen in the cooler for way over a day...you could probably cook it even on the third day).

If you like tofu, it doesn't require a freezer (just refrigeration) and is delicious on the grill.

And of course, theres always Beans and stuff.

Have a fun trip!

Hi there, i went camping with my 7 yo son a few weekends ago and I brought a cooler with plastic containers with yoplait yogert, string cheese, lunch meat, chicken for the bbq and choc puddings for my sweet tooth. I also cooked up talipia fish and measured in 4 oz containers...i never felt left out. I even walked the dog every morning....have fun!!! you don't have to feel left out!!!

I go camping very often and we tend to stick to lean meats, veggies and fruits. I put everything in foil packets with seasoning, marinade or other flavors and then cook over grill or camp fire. Works well. Last week we made fish with zucchini and mushrooms one day and grilled chicken with corn on cobb and grilled pineapple another day. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure where your at as far as foods are concerned, but canned re-fried Beans with some cheese is awesome. Also cottage cheese, yogurt, string cheese, all very portable if you've cooler space. Pre-cooking some meat is a great idea too if your on solids now. Also pre-made Protein shakes don't NEED refridgeration [though it sure helps!!].

Have a great time!

thanks everyone for you ideas. They are helping out alot when planing the menu.... we take coolers so things can stay cold. kroger has pork tenderlion that is already season so we are gonna freeze that and have it on the three day. the kids do smores so I am gonna take some choc pudding low fat graham cracker and some fat free sugar free whip cream and make my smore out of that. If I start to want some when they break them out. thank agian:thumbup:

So. Why is it so different this time from any other time you've gone? Serious question. What are you worried about? Just b/c you're banded now, doesn't change anything unless there are certain foods you have problems with.

We cook anything and everything when we're camping. Plan a menu and bring the stuff for it. We make Hobo stew in foil on the fire. Kabobs that we prep at home. We cook eggs and bacon and even make toast! pineapple upside down cake with a "solar oven" and so on and so on. We eat really well when camping! LOL!

Been a long time since we've gone camping. I'm itching to go again soon!

Have a blast and don't stress on the food. Take what you like and can eat. ENJOY!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
