Low Profile port?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon is going to use a "low profile port" tomorrow when I have my surgery. He says for me that would be better and less able to feel/see. Does anybody have one of those and if so is it hard for the surgeon to find during fills?

I have Realize Band, so my port is low profile. I haven't had a fill yet (July 28th is my first), but when I went for my 1 week post op check up, the doctor could feel my port (although I can't feel it myself). Apparently, as the weight starts coming off, it will be less noticeable under the skin.

Good luck tomorrow!!

Honestly, does it really matter? As long as your loosing the weight and becoming healthier isn't that the more important thing?

Yes, for many people it is that important. I am very concerned about my health and am looking forward to becoming a healthy person with a normal BMI. But I am ALSO really looking forward to looking great in a bathing suit, wearing a beautiful (small) wedding dress when I get married, etc. If having a lower profile port can contribute to that, then I am all for it.

I'm not trying to burst your bubble but ... I have the "regular" port. I cannot feel it at all even though I've lost 70 pounds. I can feel and see a bit of scar tissue under the incision and no port could prevent that so don't assume that just having a "low profile" port will insure nothing can be seen or felt.

I was given the low profile port. I had my surgery in April and have had 2 fills. Each of the fills the port was hard even for the Dr to find. I am still glad I have the small port. Dr says in the long run it will be the best, because sometimes people do lose enough that the bigger port sticks out and this way that won't happen....

Good luck on the beginning of your new journey. A sweet one it is.....

Well, congratulations on your success with your regular port. However, you're certainly not "bursting my bubble" (or anyone else with a low profile port) as a result. I'm very confident that I will have equally excellent results with my low-profile port. Additionally, I'm less concerned with whether my port is showing during my weight loss (so if I lose 70 pounds and it doesn't show, its neither here nor there for me) and more concerned with it for when I get to goal, and especially if I decide or need to have a Tummy Tuck.

I am concerned with something sticking out of my side when I get to goal, so I am happy with my low-profile port. No one is saying that a low-profile port ensures that it won't be seen or felt (that was never stated in any of the previous posts), but it certainly makes it more likely (and most physicians will tell you this).

I am still too fat to even feel it I think but I too have a low profile port and it was ONE of the reasons I chose Realize Band. Good luck on your journey!!!

Isaviolinist ... you completely missed what I was saying. I got a "regular port" and so far i can't feel it BUT I have scar tissue that I can SEE and FEEL even though the port isn't an issue for me so far. So, what I was saying is that I hope it works out for you that you cannot detect the low profile port OR develop scar tissue that could totally negate the decision about which port!

My surgeon told me about the low profile port because I'm a stomach sleeper. I don't want to feel anything after I lose the weight. I also don't want any chance of it showing once I lose the weight. I need to lose 70 pounds to reach my goal weight. I was banded yesterday and I'm to swolen to feel anything in my tummy and it's way to sore to go poking around just yet. Thanks for all of your comments.

i too am a stomach sleeper - i am also pear shaped *butt / thigh / hip chick*. my low profile port is now right under my left breast. it actually touches my sports bra - you have no control on how you lose the weight / where it's distributed.

i'm am short & very short waisted - as i lost my port became increasingly noticeable & i had the same amt of weight to lose. i wouldn't get hung up on the looks of the port exposed....much better than the weight. if it's that much of a deal - i've heard the port placed in the shoulder. something to consider as you drop the lbs.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
