 Has anyone missed their period after being banded and were always regular, and with that being said not pregnant? I am down 44pounds and have had a period since being banded but this month I have not, and my pregnancy test was negative. So has anyone else gone through this or know why this could happen? I am making a doctors appointment but was curious as to see what others had gone through...

Thanks in advance Annie

Heya Annie, did you not get my pm to you??! lol How you doin? 44pnds that's awesome!! Well done! I haven't skipped a period but mine are irregular anywayz as I have the implanon in, but prior to being banded when I lost a lot of weight before, I didn't get a period for a while. I was told by my doc it was cause of the weight loss, it messes with your hormones. It could also be stress (that has happened to me before too!)

I just googled it and found this list ...

Why do some women's periods stop altogether (amenorrhoea)?

Periods can stop for a number of reasons. The most common are:

  • pregnancy.
  • premature menopause (this can affect women in their early twenties).
  • weight loss.
  • weight gain.
  • some forms of medication including the contraceptive pill or injections.
  • drug abuse.
  • stress.
  • hormonal imbalances such as an underactive thyroid gland or the overproduction of a hormone called prolactin.
  • a condition called polycystic ovaries is a very common cause of irregular or absent periods.

My gynecologist said that quick weight loss messes with your hormones and that is probably normal.

I had the same problem I was always regular with my periods then after I had the surgery and started to lose weight they became irregualer. I talked to my Dr about it and he told me it was normal. That it had to do with your hormones and the weight loss and not to worry about it.

Yes weight loss messes with your cycle, the fat pumps a lot of estrogen through your system and can cause both stoppage and more periods so dont stress, it will level out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
