Consult this morning and BCBS California question

Recommended Posts

I had my consultation this morning and it went well. My BMI is 41 so I am not expecting major ins complications. The only issue was that my DR. practiced in California 4 years ago and said at that time they required 6 month supervised diet. I know of 3 in our company that had the surgery and this was not required. I spoke to BCBS last week and they just told me as long as you have a 40 bmi and psych eval then I should have no problems. Anyone have recent experience with BCBS CA?

Greg

It usually depends on the individual plan that you carry which I would assume is the same as your co-workers. If your insurance company said it is not required then it probably isn't. I would request it from the insuarance company in print though.

Thanks,

Your results are awesome. Safe to assume you have an exercise regimen. I am finding people that do have been much more succesful based on what I have read.

Honestly, I didn't do much exercising for the first seven months or so, by then I had lost most of the weight. I walked and generally kept busy but no real program. I joined Curves this past January to tone up the saggy areas.

Besides simply having the band, the biggest credit to my sucess was cutting out white carbs. Not carb counting just cutting the unhealthy processed and starchy stuff.

Just started reading these things after my initial consult yesterday and yours is the first one I noticed that said you actually reached your goal and didn't sound discouraged. Any general advice?

Hi Mommo and Welcome!

There are so many areas to cover and I don't want to hijack Gregs thread. Feel free to PM me with specific questions I'll be happy to offer any advice you need.

Hijack away. :bored: We always like input from the success stories. I spoke to my insurance and essentially BMI of 40 and a Psyche consult it all that is required. She basically said as soon as we get that you can schedule. If everything looks good I could probably be a go at the begining of September. We shall see.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
