Momma of twins having surgery in 2 weeks

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So I am at the tail end or the very beginning ( depending on how you look at it:) I am getting banded on Aug. 6th . I got my authorization and I am meeting today with the dietitian to discuss my pre-op diet. I am getting soo scared and soo excited. I can't imagine how life will feel after ( holidays, day to day, ) and I am VERY nervous about taking care of my 2 year old twins and 4 year old daughter post op. Any suggestions??? I would love some encouragement :bored:

Recovery is pretty quick as the surgery is a pretty simple procedure. The main thing is don't do any heavy lifting for I think 4 weeks post-op. This would include lifting your toddlers. Be sure to tell your surgeon you have small children so he/she can advise you about lifting. Good luck! You will not regret your decision.

I am also a mother of twins boys - 6 years old and a 12 month old boy and am being banded on Aug. 5th. Had my pre-op appt today and start my diet tomorrow. I asked about lifting today b/c of my 12 month old and he said it would be uncomfortable to lift, but wouldn't cause any damage...he's 27 pounds! I am so excited and nervous all at the same time. Have you joined the August 2009 Forum? Look it up!

If I were you I would check into the lifting thing more thoroughly because it was made very clear to me in the post-op instructions not to do any lifting.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
