My doctor's office called me today and said that my insurance company is requiring a H. Pylori lab test. Does anyone know what this is and/or why they need it?

I think that test is pretty common. I know my surgeon requires it of all his patients. H Pylori is a bacteria that can be in the stomach. If you have it, from what I understand, it can be cured with antibiotics. It wasn't bad. Don't worry about it!

It is the bacteria that is the common cause of stomach ulcers. Dr probably wants to make sure you don't have an ulcer or a risk of getting one.

H Pylori is an antibody that is in the stomach which causes stomach ulcers. It is detected by a simple blood test or they can have you blow into a "balloon"

and test the air from the balloon. Its not a big deal.

Well I tested positive for H. Pylori. Now 2 wks of antibiotics and then test again 30 days after I finish the medication. Ugggh. I was sooo ready to have everything done...:bored::mad::)

I had tested positive for it too. I had to take antibiotics for 10 days. 8 pills a day. 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening. I wasn't required to do another test so hopefully it is cured. I am having my surgery next week....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
