No surgery today...

Recommended Posts

Ok guys...I was supposed to be banded today and I cancelled yesterday. I was so sick I called and left a message for the doc and cancelled. Im a little upset that he never called me back but I guess he was busy. I did receive a couple calls today from the nurse that I didnt get until she was already gone. I will call her first thing tomorrow.

I'm so torn and discouraged. I'm upset cause I've been waiting 15 months for this day and it was ruined yet again AND I'm wondering if I should do this. I clearly dont lose the weight on my own & Im sick of being fat/unhealthy BUT was this a sign?

I started thinking about the damage/trauma the band will do to my stomach. I could potentially have the lapband (replacements as well obviously through the years) for 50 years if Im lucky to live that long. Can the tissue of my stomach handle that?

No one seems to understand why I want this band except for my hubby. Everyone else says, you know what to do, just do it! I KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT I CANT! I NEED HELP!

Ok...the venting will stop. Sorry guys. Im just sad about all of this. Ive been crying on and off (in secret).

Im probably looking too deep into it. Please give me advise

I went threw the same thing. I had to cancell TWICE. And I had the same doubts as you, 'is this a sign??' But the third time was a charm and I am sooo happy to be banded. I am now four days pre-op and just got home from my surgery yesterday. I love my band! We have have doubts, its cold feet. Then compacted with the cancellation, that adds to the jitters.

wow mom, I'm so sorry! But now is the time to ask and answer these questions for yourself!

It took me almost 3 years from when I first looked into banding to decide to do it. During that time I read and researched. I took the time to ask and answer the tough questions for myself, cause that's what this all comes down to. Doing this for YOURSELF. Until you and only you are totally sure that this is the right decision then your not ready for surgery.

Don't let the opinion of people that don't matter in the long haul influence you.

I had my surgery July 16th, all I can tell you is, I'm beyond glad I did, and I feel great. Good luck to you on your journey. Don't get the cart before the horse, be sure in your own heart and mind that the band is right for you, when you do you'll be ready and look forward to the change :-)!

I talked to the nurse yesterday. I have to get my allergy thing I have going on now cleared up, go to my reg doc and have him clear me. They will fit me in next week she said. I'm excited again :)

And 1 week of Optifast should be good enough.

Glad to hear you're back on track. Cold feet is normal. Even now after being banded, when I think about how long this will be in my body and the chances of there being no complications 50 years down the line, it scares me. Like you said, can my stomach really handle this for at least another 50+ years? Scary stuff. But I based it on my life now, and if something comes up in the future then I will deal with it then.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
