I just wondered if anyone else is having trouble eating red meat. I can eat chicken, mince and fish with no problems at all, I can even have ham...but red meat (steak) just doesn't go down and I end up bringing it back up. I have always loved my meat so not being able to eat it is hard. Anyone else?

I just ate a small steak for supper which was very tender. It didnt get stuck going down and I thought I had no problems. However, within a half hour I felt it start to come back up. I dont think I will be eating steak anytime again soon!

surprisingly i can eat steak and not chicken or eggs.

the steak must not be overcooked or cooked too well.

i think i could eat steak about 6 months after being banded

I'm so glad it's not just me!

I use my slow cooker a lot. Red meat done in that is great.

It has to be perfectly cooked, nice, rare and moist, which I cant manage, lol. I am not a good meat cook.

things like lamb chops or steak on the barbie, I can eat it but its such a slow and careful process that I just dont enjoy them anymore.

Roasts are OK, but not overcooked. The only steak I can eat and enjoy is if we go to Hogsbreath - those are SO tender.

I use the slow cooker a lot - I tend to even cook a leg of lamb in there, or roast beef, because whilst it doesnt brown up and LOOK as appealing as from the oven, its very tender.

And we make lots of stuff with mince. I made these amazing pork meatballs in a green curry sauce the other week, yum.

I'm 6 wks post op. Last week I tried steak. It was rare, and I cut it into VERY tiny pieces. Fortunately, I had no problem.

I can only eat steak if it's cut up in small tiny pieces and must chew chew chew chew.

This may sound like a stupid question, but what is it about steak that makes it intolerable for many people? It seems like if it's chewed well enough and not too dry there shouldn't be a problem.

The thought of not eating steak again makes me sad lol

although I did not eat alot of steak before being banded. I did eat burgars with out Buns, My taste buds have changed and any red meat at all taste nasty to me. I have tried to eat different red meats and they all have a "gross me out" taste. Its a good thing I like chicken breast and pork tenderlion (no bones)... because I would not know what to do. I am not big on fish either....

No, I want to like fish as its so good for you but I just cant.

I like atlantic salmon and I like things like canned tuna but as a family we never eat fish for dinner becuase its just plain freaking awful, lol. DH loves to fish and he brings it home and I cant even touch the stuff, the bones etc gross me out, I'm afraid of band problems from swallowing a bone, it tastes just like salt Water, its just awful. I do not get why people rave about fish.

DH was so excited to catch a big snapper and stuff it and put it on the barbecue whole and everyone raved over it and to me it was just - meh. What's the fuss?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
