I'm having my surgery on Tuesday (7/21) and I'm on the liquid diet phase. I am in perfect health, other than being fat.

So...I've been following the diet perfectly other than (grr @ me) I ate two bites of pizza on Friday! I'm so mad at myself! I wasn't even thinking...husband got the kids pizza and I picked up a piece and took 2 bites before I realized what I was doing! (Which is probably my problem in the first place!)  :wink2:

Do you think I need to tell my doctor?

Oh, honey, you're fine. Two bites of pizza a few days before your surgery shouldn't hurt anything. (Do not even try that after your surgery, though!)

The purpose of the pre-op diet is to decrease the size of your liver. Two bites of pizza aren't going to mess that up.

xoxo

Yes you should be fine. I cheated as well. My husband came back from Iraq and we had a big party for him. I cheated with chips and dip, taco with avocado, margarita and alot of other things. Oh yeah a chocolate covered strawberry like 3 of them. I was banded on July 14th and my recovery and surgery are great. Just make sure to stay on the liquid for the two weeks so you do not upset your stomach which can make you feel nauseated. Good luck in your journey.

It happens, you were in the pre-op stage so you won't do any damage where if you were banded already you might have. I didn't have a pre-op diet but I put myself on a version of one. I had a Protein shake for 2 meals and then one healthy, low cal meal for dinner.

You're right ...we eat out of habit and that has been a big adjustment for me. Once you have surgery you will be more aware of what you put in your mouth.

Good luck!

i agree with the others that during preop you are ok if a few bites of pizza is all you did. it does bring to your attention though, how out of habit and without thought, we just pick up food and bring it straight to our mouths. it is a behavior we have to unlearn so to speak. you caught it and you learned from it. Good.

Best of Luck!!

Good. I've been worried. I didn't have a fatty liver...but I thought that it could be that some foods didn't digest as fast and so they wanted our stomach empty.

I actually am only on a liquid diet for three days after surgery. Then mushies for 9 days.....so I guess I can make it one more day. I have a feeling I won't feel like anything solid the days afterward anyway. :wink2:

Hi...... I'm being banded on Tues the 21st also!! My Doctor doesn't have us do all liquid. I've been on a lowfat diet for 2 weeks. Eating about 800-1000 calories a day.... Tomorrow I'm on clear liquids... I'm so excited, good luck to you...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
