How much time did you take off work?

Recommended Posts

I am curious how much time your doc gave you off work, also, how much time you really think you needed before returning to work.

I am having anxiety over having to return too soon.

My doctor gave me two weeks and I felt I wasn't ready but I have a very compassionate boss so I could take it easy each day until I was back to normal. The best I can remember, it was 3 weeks post op til I felt human again. But each person is different. Hope all goes well for you.:cursing:

I took three weeks off and took it easy when I went back last week. It took me a good three weeks to feel pretty normal again. The first day at work was killer and I went home early. You can discuss with your doctor how much time you would like. Usually they will just fill out the note. I see people who go back after three days, but I wouldn't have been able to handle it. The recovery for me was very easy, but I needed to nap a lot.

I took 2 weeks off. I was a bit wiped the first day but i was also going stir crazy. Granted I was up to walking 1.5 miles per day and still have not gottwn a fill but I think the exercise helped me have to energy to make it through a 12 hr shift.

Good luck and keep us posted ^_^

Everybody is different, but I would have lost my everlovin' mind if I'd stayed home as long as some of you guys! I don't know how I'll ever tolerate retirement. I had surgery on Tuesday and was back at work on Friday with no ill effects.

I had my surgery on Friday 8/29 and I was back to work on WEdnesday. Desk job so didnt have to much of a problem. I was better by Monday, gas pain was gone and Tuesday I went for pampering of the hair and eyebrows. So I was feeling great!

I took off 3 days. I was banded on a Monday and was back to work on a Thursday. I think I did fine; I felt a little 'bleh' but I wasn't in pain.

In retrospect, had I been following my docs advise and drinking Protein like I was supposed to, I probably wouldn't have felt even 'bleh' by that point - I just wasnt getting enough Protein and my body was lagging because of it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
