Eating only when hungry...what a concept

Recommended Posts

I just realized that I used to eat all the time, hungry or not. It is very different to know what hungry feels like. I eat when I'm hungry now and stick to the suggested portion sizes and surprisingly I am feeling pretty satisfied. I feel like I am being freed from the prison of food. I can love and enjoy food without being overindulgent and abusing it. Just wanted to share my little moment I was having.:scared2:

How great that must feel!! I think that I have been "programmed" for so long just to eat whenever and not to think about whether I was hungry or not that the idea of waiting until I am hungry is a new concept. I am not banded yet but one of the things that I am looking forward to is viewing food as a tool, not as a friend that I turn to constantly. Eating to live instead of living to eat, as the old saying goes. Congratulations on your "ah-ha" moment!

Robbie -

I couldn't agree with you more. To say, "No thanks, I'm not hungry" (and truly mean it!!) is such a neat feeling. While I still struggle with occasional head hunger and clean the plate syndrome, most of the time I'm just plain not hungry, and more often than not I'm leaving food on my plate at the end of the meal. Whodathunk???? :scared2:

I am very tight and am only eating maybe 1/2 cup at a time. What amazes me, is how much I use to eat. Let's say we would go out for Mexican food. After binging on at least 1 basket of chips, it would be followed by 1 Taco, 2 enchiladas and Beans & rice. Now I go and order an enchilada and then I won't eat the entire thing. This will then last me until the next meal.

I look at other peoples plates thinking: "How do they eat that? Where does it all go?" Plus, I am finding that snacking has completely gone by the wayside. So, like you I am finding the concept of eating only when hungry a novelty, along with eating only until I'm full....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
