I am scheduled for banding October 10, 2005. I am excited about the procedure, however I am extremely scared of failing. Can anybody provide details following the surgery and the amount of weight loss within the first month?

Hi Tiffany, Welcome to LBT. I have been at this for 10 months and have lost almost 70lbs and I am STILL scared of failing! I don't know if it will ever go away. I just keep telling myself that "I CAN DO IT"!! It has not been easy and I still have to work hard at losing, but I think it is still the best thing that I have ever done for myself.I would do it again if I had to!

What details do you mean after surgery? Pain? I was not in a lot of pain at all! Went back to work (preschool teacher) in a week after surgery, could have gone back sooner but the school was closed for Thanksgiving. BUT everyone is different!!!!!!

As fo the amount of weight loss within the first month? Well I lost 11 lbs the 2 weeks of liquid diet before surgery and then about 9 lbs 2 weeks after.(still on liquid diet) Then started on the soft food stage. Not really sure amount of weight loss then.

again, EVERYONE is different! Some lose a lot and some are slower!

Where are you having your surgery done?

Ms Tiffany i understand completely about the fear of failing.. i think i was afraid that more than the selfsame operation!

i have done (like everybody) thousand diets, i had spend million to institutes to lose weight and the results were only GUILTIES for myself that i could not control my weight..

so when i did this operation i thought that maybe will be one more failed try...

so far i have lost 18 kgr. and day by day i feel that this time it will not happen again..

i guess is a psychological fermentation...

Good Luck on your surgery at 10 of Octomber!

i start to believe that even if you try hard to fail in this one you just can't

Hi Tiffany I was only off work 1 week after my surgery and the pain those first few days is all worth it now to be banded and losing weight. I've lost 66 pounds in 7 months time. The first month of being banded I lost 14 pounds. every one of us is so different and some lose faster or slower than others. You can do this.Your band will give you that extra push you need to succeed. I now your worried right now and that is completely normal but you will not be sorry once your banded you will be glad you had it done. Good luck and best wishes for success with your weightloss!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
