Will it be different after my first fill?

Recommended Posts

He everyone,

It takes awhile - but if you get regular fills.....you will find restriction and that you REALLY Can't eat the things you're told not to eat! I was banded in June 2008 - I've got 7.5 in my 10 cc band - have great restriction! It's worth the wait - don't give up, eat what you should & it does get better!!!!!

Too kool guys. I was banded on May 22, 2009 and got my first fill July 6th.. It doesn't feel any different and yes, could eat more if I let myself.

Remember.. you didn't go through this surgery to just make you lose weight... it is a journey and we have to change our eating habits.

I go August 7 for another fill.

It really is mind over matter. I don't think I am hungry.. I just like to snack.< /p>

Have a great day and hang in there everyone..

I totally know exactly how your feeling!!! I was banded on 6/24/09 and feel hungry all the time. However, i am not eating anything becasue i am scared that i might get stuck or pb. I know these two things are inevitable and i have to branch out a little more, but i am sticking to crackers and cheese, or mashed potatoes and fish. I am craving variety and have not lost any more weight than the 17 pounds i have lost total (pre and post-op) i am however eating probably more than i should, but less than i ever ate before surgery. I just dont want to screw anything up with my band, but feel like i am going to die a slow and painful cracker death!!!! I would love someone to talk to about all of this- feel free to email me anytime; my email is sgwusf@aol.com.

Hi there! I was banded on 6/17 as well and I have to admit, I'm a little hungry. Though, it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. After reading about Bandster Hell, I was scared that I will never be satisfied until my 3rd of 4th fill.

My nutritionist told me to eat up to 1200 calories, this was to start immediately during liquids and through the final stage of the healing process. So, I'm one month out, have lost 19-20 lbs (I'm in between), walking at least an hour a day and eating 3 meals totalling to 1200 calories per day *but eating the type of foods the I'm allowed off of the list the nutritionist gave me.

I'm usually just very hungry right before I eat a meal, it's the waiting after drinking liquid that plays with my head I think but my stomach is growling! After eating my measured meal, I usually feel satisfied enough to wait until the next meal. I'm not sure if it's because of the band because I know that I don't have restriction YET or maybe I'm just scared to over eat. But I'm usually satisfied for a few hours. I usually have tea around 8am, eat Breakfast at 9:00am, lunch around 1pm then dinner at 7:00pm. I like to keep it consistent, I'm hoping that will help with the hunger (and so far it has).

Anyway, I know I have to endure the hunger pains for now and I keep going cos I know it will get better. My first appointment is tomorrow, not sure if I will get a fill but I'm hoping!

Good luck!

I have to tell you I've experienced everything you're tallking about, but hang on because after my second fill I finally can feel the restriction I thought I would have after the placment of the band.

This is my second day after that fill and I really have to make an effort to remember to take small bites and chew chew chew, otherwise it can be a little painful and I can feel my food sticking. This will definately keep me from eating too much and so far I am not hungry at all...Hurray...I'm looking for that day where I eat to live and not live to EAT! I didn't like the fact that I COULD eat what ever I wanted and thought this isn't going to work. My will power almost got the best of me at times.

I am being faithful with my excercise also and really feel better. Doing something everyday and atleast 4 days a week I go to the gym and do 30 mins/2 miles on the treadmill, then 30 mins of strength training (alternate days of upper body & lower body) and finish with 30 mins/7 miles on a stationary bike. I usually walk 2-3 miles on my off days

We all have to remember this is a slow process and for good reason...It's much healthier that way! I would love to have all my excess weight GONE...yesterday, but that's not reality.

Let's all pat ourselves on the back for taking that first step and becoming a bandster! We can do this and with eachothers help we will conquer our goals!

My email is kbsoysisters@sbcglobal.net if anyone would like to email me also.

Looking forward to that SWEET SPOT!

Teri

Hi Teri...

As promised i'm writing to tell that i finally had my first fill today. I have a 10cc band and had 2cc's put in it this afternoon. Back to my full liquid diet for 2 days then "mush" for 2 days. Kinda stinks for the weekend but hey... it will all be worth it. I hope that I stay fuller longer now. I'll have to keep you posted on that too but for now... i've been filled! LOL!!! :D

I have to say it was a bit easier than some of the things i read on the boards. I didnt have any lidocane (sp) just found my port, took out the air and then put in 2cc's of Fluid. It was done before I knew it. I go back to see him mid August to check on me to see if i need another one.

We'll see!

I could eat anything after my surgery in February. Now, after three fills, I have significant restriction. There are lots of things I just can't eat anymore, and, frankly, it is great. French fries give me acid, bread gets stuck, cake makes me gag...Okay, guess I'll eat lots of fish and veggies to feel full...woo hoo...40 pounds down!

Lynn,

Glad to hear your first fill went well! It's interesting to see how different it is for everyone. My doctor didn't instruct me to go back on liquids and then mush after my fill. And...then your doctor didn't use any anesthetic before inserting the syringe to fill your band...Did that hurt?...alittle curious!

I'm still not feeling hungry at all...infact, I have to remind myself to eat as I know it's not good to skip meals (a bad habit from my past!) I am still really feeling the restriction and have to be real careful to take small bites and really chew my food well. There have been times where the food gets stuck and it doesn't feel good when that happens.

So...keep up the good work and know this is going to WORK!!! I can really tell the difference since my second fill.

Take care,

Teri

Hi Teri...

I agree it is wierd how everyone's programs are different. Umm... yea, I suppose it hurt a little - just like getting a 'shot'. However the worst of it all was the gas pain in my left shoulder afterwards! UGH! I didn't know what to do because I didnt have any pain after my surgery nearly anything like I felt after the fill.

I just started back on 'soft foods' today so i'm anxious to see how the fill works. I'm hoping it will curb the hunger more than without the fill.

Catch up with you again soon!

- Lynn

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
