I got banded 4/07. Lost 144lbs. Diagnosed with colon cancer on9/08..Needed to open band for tumor surgery and chemo...Completed all of that. Refilled band then started having gallbladder issues. Needed to empty band to put a shunt in..Refilled band and now I am having a terrible time trying to get off the 60 lbs I gained when the band was open..I am filled back up to where I was when I lost all the weight but its terribly hard to get the weight off this time...I know what I have to do just can't stay on track and get it done....Anybody have any advice for me????:):frown:JULIE

Bless your heart. You have been through so much you may want to consider giving your body a rest. I had cancer many years ago and chemo has come a long way since then, but I have had several family members who have had to have chemo. I am no expert but based on their experiences I am aware that there are certain kinds of chemo that put weight on and bloat you out. My uncle was a very small person and gained a lot of weight while on chemo. It is very hard to lose. I was on oral steroids for 2 yrs for a skin condition and had to wait a time before they would even talk to me about the band. I currently have hypothyroidism and I have to keep it checked regularly or it will defeat my weight loss with the band. I was banded on 06-19-19 and have lost 20 lbs so far. Gotta change my ticker. I know you are probably tire easily right now but exercise may also be a big help to you. Good Luck and Hang in there.

Hi Julie,

I tend to agree with greytz to give your body a rest. Maybe focus more on eating healthy healing foods, exercise, and overall body/mind/spirit rather than focus on losing weight. You lost 144 lbs, so you are still down about 84, correct? If so, that is still awesome!! There will be time to move toward further weight loss, but after your body heals you may be surprised that it will start to let go of what it once needed to get you through your cancer and other issues.

We're all here for support throughout your journey! So glad you joined us!

Hi,

Thanks for replying to me..I think your right about just letting my body rest...I have only been done with chemo for 3 months...I have to go for a blood test next week so cross your fingers...I am trying not to think about it cause then I just want to use that as an excuse to eat because I am worried about.Boy its a never ending battle.........:scared2::smile2:

Hi Julie,

Good luck on your blood test, I am sure it will be fine!!

I am a 2 time cancer survivor, bone cancer of my 2nd right toe 1 1/2 years ago (it was amputated, no further treatment needed), and melanoma on my upper right arm (luckily found VERY early, only needed surgical removal but a big chunk out of my arm) 5 years ago. Although I never had chemo, I know the feeling of being scared for the checkups/scans/etc. I will tell you it DOES get better. At first you'll be at 3 months, then at 6 months, then at 1 year... pretty soon you have to remember to put it on your calendar to make your appointments because you will forget!! You'll get there.. I remember being so nervous and anxious before my appointments, wondering what they will find.. drove me nuts! But, you can't control it you can only control your reaction to it. :cursing:

Take care,

Katie

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
