hi! Just had my band fitted a week ago and was wondering if anyone else gets a funny pulling sensation from the area around their port after they've eaten? It feels as if my belly is being pulled inwards by an invisible wire...very strange!!

What kind of diet does your doctor have you on at this stage?

Hi,

My Doc has said I can have anything except bread, alcohol and fizzy drinks. I can't drink with a meal either. He dosen't want me to have a liquid diet as he says these tend to contain more calories. I am eating sensibly and chewing well, mainly Soup, salads, fish and yogurts really. He says my stomach is not that different to before size wise though it is a bit swollen. i am only eating small portions as I don't want to have too big a shock when I have my fill!

The pulling sensation you are experiencing may just be from healing or the swelling post surgery.

Most people are on a liquid diet for at least some time after surgery. The stomach moves around to digest foods and some (most?) believe that after surgery, the gut should have a rest and be allowed to heal without all of the movement required for digestion.

liquids don't have to be calorie-filled. The shakes I drink are around 100 calories and post-surgery, I was getting in 2-3 each day.

Maybe give your doc a call about the sensations. Ask them if it's normal or if you should come in and be looked at.

Hi Christine,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write back. I saw my Dr and he said that the pulling sensation was due to the stomach moving around and digesting the food. I will look into the Protein Shakes you suggested and try to stick with foods that are easier for my stomach to digest. I have been much better today on Soup and yogurts, better than the prawns I ate yesterday! Thanks again for your advice

Also, I was told by my doctor that like bread, many people can't tolerate prawns (shrimp). I can usually tolerate it okay but I have to take it extra slow(more so than some other foods). I don't think I would have been able to handle it so early though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
