"doesn't look like you're losing any weight"

Recommended Posts

Yes, someone who knows I had the surgery actually said that to me!!! :)

When did you start noticing weight loss via the mirror and not the scale? I was banded 4/10 and I walk past reflective glass everyday at work and I still look the same.........

surg 320, today 290lbs

I like that you dont refer to that person as a friend!

I'm still frustrated with my 4 cc's and no restriction. I had this surgery to help me eat smaller portions and I'm not getting anywhere. Help!

Unfortunately right now you are in bandster hell. I would call your doctor and schedule a fill. go in every 3 weeks until you get to a good restriction. Good luck.

I've always thought 40 lbs was the magic number. In the past, I'd have to lose 40 lbs before people ever noticed or started getting compliments. I hae reached that spot yet, but, hopefully soon. I can tell when I look in the mirror and with my clothes. I can see a big difference in my waist.

You're doing great! Keep it up. Don't worry about negative people.

I'm sure the person wasn't intentionally trying to be mean, despite how their comment may have sounded. So don't react defensively back to them.

Sometimes, when someone is around you day after day, it is harder to notice weight loss as opposed to someone who hasn't seen you in a while. Could this be the case?

Someone asked me the other day if I had had my surgery yet! I was like, 'yes'. They were like,'oh have you lost any weight?'. Idiots, I've lost 50 pounds. Some people are just ignorant. DOn't let it get you down.

I would say to them, "It doesn't look like you have any tact...."

I made the mistake of telling one of the teachers at my daughter's preschool about my surgery. She kindda figured out I had some kind of surgery, so I spilled the Beans. Anyway, since my surgery, May 8th. EVERYDAY, and I mean, everyday, she asks "how much". It's very annoying. I have tried to throughly explain the procedure and fills and blah blah blah, but in the end some people just can not wrap their minds around the concept of the band. They think "oh you had WLS surgery so by next week you should have lost 90lbs!". I just smile and say that I am doing fine and thanks for asking.

I agree, it is not about them, it is about you. You are doing this for you!

Think how much 30 pounds really is. Visualize going into the grocery store and buying 30 one pound packages of hamburger and carrying them around all day. Think how much better your heart and joints are.

Knowing you are doing good things for you will help keep you motivated and one day soon, it will begin to show and everyone will be making comments. Give yourself a big pat on the back for what you are doing!

You've lost 30 POUNDS!!! That's 10 pounds a month and truly a wonderful weight loss. You could always say to the rude person, "Sure I've lost weight, I look a lot better naked. You want to see?" That might make them think twice about negative commets.

Keep up the great work. How are you feeling so far?

I've only lost 26 pounds and my body doesn't look any better either, but my face has lost some weight and is starting to look wrinkled. GREAT, but it's a small price to pay to not be miserable moving and getting off of some of the drugs I take. You just keep after it. You'll do fine and be able to thumb your nose at that person some day soon.

I LOVE some of these answers to you!

IGNORE, IGNORE, IGNORE (To which I would add: DELETE, DELETE, DELETE)

". . . you don't look like my Dr."

". . . looks like you don't have any tact."

Too funny!

But imagine carrying around three 10-lb bowling balls! That's how much you shed! That's totally awesome!

I lost just under 30 pounds since my banding, and nobody has said anything yet, except the woman at the Korean restaurant we go to.

As I was leaving, she ran up to me and grabbed me by the shoulders, "You lose weight? You lose much weight?! You look awesome!"

I almost shed a few tears!

People who don't see you often will notice.

Even if they don't, be proud! Be VERY proud!

:wink2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
