I just got banded 5 days ago and I destinctly remember my surgeon telling me twice already that it needs to be deflated or unfulled for any future procedures. I would listen to the nurse, there is probably a good reason for it. Worse comes to worse, verify the information with your surgeon. Hope this helps.

It depends on what type of surgery you are having and on your surgeon. I had a breast aug. in Jan. and a revision breast lift in june. I didn't have an unfil with eather.

Hi:

I've had two surgeries since being banded. I was unfilled on both. When I had my gallbladder out I got refilled the day after surgery. When I had my Tummy Tuck I didn't get filled again for about ten days and then he didn't fill me all the way back. In fact, I'm still a little shy of where I was prior to tummy tuck. I was unfilled because I have vomiting issues with anesthesia.

I hope all goes well for you.

Sue

I had a hysterectomy in December and I asked my gyn and she called my band surgeon. Neither thought I needed and unfill (I only had 2ccs), so I didn't get one. I wish I wouldn't have listened. I became too tight and didn't want to get the unfill after, because I had 4 new incisions and didn't want to get poked on. If I have any further surgeries, ANYWHERE on my torso, I will definitely get unfilled.

Weigh the risks. Some can't tolerate the anesthesia well and go into convulsions when waking up. Would that be you? Again, it's about risk.

Rhinoplasty or anything else where blood would pool up in your stomach....definitely get an unfill because vomiting it up is part of coming out of anesthesia.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
