Realistic Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Its been about four months since I had my lap-band surgery done and I have lost 25 - 30 pounds so far. I am wondering what the "norm" or average weight loss is at this stage in the game. I feel like I should have lost more weight by now but am unsure if I have unrealistic expectations. Please help me by providing feedback on what your journey has been like. I appreciate any feedback you guys provide!

Hi, I seem the same way you feel it's been exactly 3 months today for me since I've have the surgery, and I've only lost 26-30 lbs. I keep telling myself though everyone's body is different some of the blogs I've read where people have lost 64lbs and up.. but everyone loose at there own pace, our bodies are different. I do feel that I'm loosing slower than most people though..I'm due to get my 2nd fill on Aug 10 can't wait.. tried to go earlier but that's the earliest the dr can get me in.. but that's ok.. Let just be thankful for what we have lost.. Keep up the good work.

I don't think you can compare with other people as we are all different. You have done really well so far, 30 pounds in 4 months is brilliant. I lost an average of 7lbs a month in the early days and am only 13lbs from my target 8 months out.

Just remember it isn't a race, you will lose at your own pace and when weight loss stops, then you can book yourself a fill appointment to kick start it again.

Good luck!

Sue

If you read any of the literature it says that average weight loss is 1 - 2 llbs per week. This means you are losing exactly as expected.

I agree with elcee; you are right on target with 1-2lbs per week. Keep up the good work!

I think it depends.

If you look at my stats you can see that I started with a very high weight and still have plenty to lose.

If you are extra heavy, you lose it quick -

If you don't have much to lose, it will take you longer.

Thank you all for your feedback and comments. It's reassuring to hear that I seem to be on track. I definately think that it is time for me to get another fill to jump start the weight loss again but am happy with the progress that I have made so far. Thanks again!!

I recall that the average is 50% of your goal in the first year. Work out the numbers and you'll get the average lbs per month for you specifically. That's the average, some are quicker and some slower.

The % means more than the pounds. A 45 BMI person will seem to lose much more weight than a 35 BMI one. There are people on this forum that lost almost as much as my total goal in just the pre-op diet.

And never get discouraged, this is not a diet, it's the rest of your life. As long as weight is dropping at whatever pace, you are going in the right direction.

that's a pretty reliable rule of thumb, but its not always ture either. I think it depends a lot on why you're overweight. I lost half my excess weight in the first 3 months (50lb or so) and I only had a BMI of 36 when I was banded.

But I am healthy, active and really, despite having got fat, I have a pretty fast metabolism, I've noticed I have lost weight eating far more than many here, I lost all my weight easily on 1500 calories a day or so. I eat 2000 a day to maintain (but I did lose the second half of my excess weight very slowly). Whereas people with metabolic problems, people who are so heavy that they're very inactive etc, they often find that they dont lose as fast as they expect to.

but 30lb in 3 or 4 months is excellent weight loss and nothing to worry about at all.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
