Anyone not lose all their pre-op weight???

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow and I'm SO nervous I wont be down the 10 lbs my surgeon wants me down. I have stuck to the diet as perscribed, and the lbs dropped at first, and now the scale wont move. I have 4 lbs left to go and I'm scared I'm not going to get my surgery tomorrow!

I'm in the same boat as you. But i had to loose 20 lbs. The first month i lost the ten so easily. Now i'm in the second month and i can't drop the other 10 lbs. I have my final appt july 23rd and was hoping to have the 20 lbs gone. My surgery will not even be scheduled unless i have lost the 20 lbs.

Good luck and i'll be praying for a miracle to loose the last few lbs so you can have your surgery.

How rigid is your surgeon about the weight loss requirement? One of my pre-op requirements (surgeon's rule, not ins. co. rule) is to lose 10% of the starting weight (my weight on the day of consultation). For me, that is 21 lbs. So far I have lost 17. I asked on the day of the consultation if I didn't acheive the exact # if it would be a deal breaker, and was advised that it would not be, but I should make every effort to get as close as possible to a 10% loss.

My surgeon says he won't do the surgery if you don't lose every pound. However, there are several in the support groups who have been within a couple of pounds of that and still had the surgery.

But..I wouldn't want to take any chances with it. Increasing exercise and Water intake is what I did when I was close.

apparently some surgeons are very strict... i asked to be weighed when i went in for my surgery... otherwise they wouldn't have even weighed me. My surgeon only required me to "lose as much weight as possible" during a 10 day preop...i lost 10 pounds but don't even think the surgeon knows.

at the very worsed... i am sure it wouldjust be postponed, not cancelled. you'll get there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
