Another newly banded hopeful

Recommended Posts

I am so thrilled to find this forum. I had my surgery on June 18th and have checked posts on this forum several times to help answer questions and ease concerns. You guys are such a supportive and helpful bunch of people!! I go in for my first fill on July 16th. My doctor does not put anything in the band when he does surgery so this is truly my first fill. I am excited to experience the difference. I thought something was wrong with me cause I was not filling satisfied with a half cup of food. After reading the posts on fills I now understand. Again, I am really pleased to have found this forum and thank you all for your informative posts.

Hi Robin, thank you for joining us!

With regards to fill, just remember that you may not feel the restriction you are looking for after the first fill. Some times it takes several before you reach your "sweet spot." However, I believe it is better to be more conservative than aggressive with fills, as being over filled is miserable and can cause problems.

Good luck on your journey. Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

Melissa - I was really fine just a few hours after surgery, as a matter of fact, I think I could have gone home and slept in my own bed and been happier but our hospital's program requires an overnight stay. I have an office job and I had surgery on a Monday and was back to work the next Monday. I could have done light tasks even Thurs or Friday but it all depends on what you do. I'd say 1 week for an office type job is usually fine.

Melissa, I had my surgery in the morning and was home by that afternoon. I was uncomfortable that day and the next but mainly from all of the gas and pressure. I work from home and was up the next day after surgery on the phone and computer for the better part of the day. Good luck with your surgery!! I am excited for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
