How long did it take before you were back to "normal"?

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I just had my surgery yesterday and I'm looking forward to being back to normal! I've been moving around quite a bit and walking or climbing stairs doesn't really bother me. Also, I have that "worked out too much" type pain in my neck, stomach and legs that I think will go away in another few days. But, I have no desire to eat or drink anything. My throat is very sore, but I've still been trying to make sure I get enough Protein in with shakes and yogurt. I'm also trying to wean myself off the pain medication - makes me too sleepy. We have visitors coming this weekend who are staying at our house for a week - lots of activities in the area planned - I hope I'm up for it by then!!

Normal was probably three weeks.

Be sure you're getting enough rest. Would hate to see you bite off more than you can chew (I'm so punny!) and end up exhausted or hurt.

xoxo

So far, I've mainly been sipping a lot of ice Water. That seems to be helping the sore throat along with the popsicle I had today. I've also tried some yogurt and some sugar-free pudding - but both tasted too sweet and I only had a small bite. I really like the Protein Shake I started several months ago, so I think that will be "dinner" tonight. But it seems like after a few small sips, I don't have any desire for more. I guess that's a good thing! The hubby is going to pick up some applesauce for me tonight to see if that's any better. And I'm really hoping the overall soreness goes away - feels like I just ran a marathon - every muscle in my upper arms, neck, back, stomach and legs hurts! Maybe weaning myself off the pain meds too early was a bad idea - I'll definitely take another dose before bed!

normal(ish)-- two weeks, totally normal --a month

I was eating normal foods at 4 weeks, so that helped me to feel normal.

For now and the first week

Hi there. I had surgery 2 weeks ago today and I feel great. I went back to work 1 week out and was still very tired and sore on my port incision. But, by day 10 I felt a lot stronger and every day seems better. I am getting a cold and the caughing is making my incision sore. I really think that once I went back to work and real life kicked in I started thinking about things other than recovering and liquids, and that helped. Good luck.

Hi, today is day 6 after surgery. I am dreaming about food, but I don't have much appetite. I am feeling better and beginning to get bord but afraid to overdo. Any suggestions? Any Snacks that help the first two weeks of liquids?

I am two weeks post -op and the first 4 days were difficult. But each day you will feel stronger and healither. Listen to your body when you are tired rest. I am feeling like my normal self now.Make sure you are getting your Protein in. My program is to have 40 grams per drink and a total of 60 grams a day the first few weeks. I understand each lap-band program can be different. Your lucky that you can have applesauce already; our program does not allow egg or applesauce until going on your 3rd week phase 3. Relax and listen to your body it will get better I promise you. Cece

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
