Anyone With Aetna Choice POS II??

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else on here happens to have the Aetna Choice POS II insurance? If so, is there ANY chance that anyone knows if there is a way to waive the 4 month waiting period?? I'm pretty sure my Urologist will submit a letter stating the medical necessity, but, I didn't know if it was something that was worth the effort or not. Anyone have any thoughts??

I suppose its worth trying- what could it hurt right? But I would still start the waiting period requirements so that if in a month the letter doesn't count for anything, so havent wasted a month.

I have Aetna and had to do the 6 month wait/diet. Then was denied, then appealed and approved. So document everything. And in the mean time do your homework so you use the 4 months to your advantage.

I had Aetna POS Choice at the time of my surgery. There was no waiting period required. Probably different benefits within the same plan.

Thanks for the replies! I called Aetna today and turns out that they have a standard 4 month wait time, but, with my company, it's only 3. Also, I scheduled my psych eval for next week as opposed to middle of August. If they can get me in to see the doctor SOME time this month, that puts me at 3 months and then the 4th month I'd have the surgery, which is October. I can do October! That and I was told that a case manager will call me back to see about the medical necessity thing. The rep on the phone wasn't sure, but, said I could have them submit my case for review and see what they say. So, the ball really IS rolling! Now we wait and see!

I have Aetna Choice POS II.... and Consider the 4 mos a blessing lol. I have to wait 7 mos total (6 month diet, + 1 month for initial PCP visit) I figure as long as i've been heavy, 7 more months should be a breeze, lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
