650 Pound Virgin

Recommended Posts

I watched this show last night and am wondering if anyone else did. It is about a guy who was 650 pounds and lost 400 pounds. They make a point to mention that he did it "the old-fashioned way." Aargh!

I am curious what others thought of this show.

I didn't see that particular show.

But, I do know that there are many, many people out there who are successful losing weight WITHOUT surgery. And I don't think anyone could honestly disagree with the concept that losing it through diet and exercise IS the best, safest, and healthiest way to do it. AND the most personally empowering and fullfilling way.

But, of course, the difficulty is not necessarily in the losing.....it's the "keeping it off" that is often the problem.

but it CAN be done,....and it IS done often by people. Take a look at this web site:

www.formerfatguy.com

I have no affilitation with him, I am just aware of his story. It is quite inspiring. People CAN do it. For the rest of us, well,...WLS provides the long term solution.

I saw parts of the show. He made such a huge transformation!

I didn't feel slighted at all by them saying that he did it without surgery. Good for him. I hope that he doesn't do what 95% of people who lose weight do - gain it back. It seems that he has changed his life dramatically and still has alot of physical activity, so he probably won't gain it back.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

I didnt see the show as it wasnt on here but he's on A Current Affair tonight so I've seen the advertising. I've seen a show on this guy before, on Medical Miracles or some such crap all about siamese twins and some guy with the most amazing wart problem, lol.

Anyway, this show was documenting this fellow's enormous cosmetic surgeries - he had enough skin removed to house about 4 people. So he may well have lost the weight without surgery but he sure as eggs didnt get to where he is today without surgery.

yet credit where credit is due - can you IMAGINE losing that much weight without surgical help? He's amazing.

The belief that WLS will prevent one from recurring weight gain is a complete myth.

You still have to do the right things to achieve it. Not over-eating (depends what your eating as well), maintaining a good physical workout routine etc.

You CAN over-eat with the band and any other WLS.

It's not fool proof, so people, please don't fool yourselves.

I watched every minute of it. I was glued to the TV. I think it is amazing, and I'm very proud of him. I wish him well in his job as a personal trainer and his Quest for love. I found it very inspiring, even if I'm not doing it "the old fashioned way".

I certainly agree that it is an outstanding accomplishment to lose 400 pounds, no matter the manner. Dude has done great and I hope he can maintain his healthier life.

The tree man! that was it. I was absolutely glued to that, it was a wart virus mutation and he honestly looked like a human mangrove or some such jungle plantlife. It was utterly incredible and hearbreaking.

OMG,

I watch all those shows late at night. Don't even get me started.

Did anyone see the man that got the face transplant. That was amazing. And this elderly woman that had a fetus entombed in her body for like 30 years. It grew outside her womb.

I like Big Medicine, the father and son bariatric team. The dad has such a cute accent!

And the one about the Mexican guy that weighed a real lot (forgot how much) that wanted to go into town and they put him and his huge bed on a flatbed truck and drove down the freeway, but then had to turn around because I believe there was a bridge they were afraid to go under.

There's some new show on about these woman giving birth and not knowing they were pregnant! Now that one is a little out there. I just can't believe you could go full term and not know you were pregnant! Both my kids kicked the heck out of me!

:)

I just finished watching that show I dvr'd it the other night and finally got around to watching it. I hope he finds a nice girl. It was really a sweet show that made me happy that I chose to finally do something about my weight regardless if I am using surgery instead.

Maryrose,

I saw the one about the guy you referenced. I did not see the episode with him on the flatbed, but I saw episodes about his journey.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
